Window tint?

Post by redneck1 » Wed Jun 17, 2015 6:41 pm

Fixin to put tint my 13 pw all the way around! Does anyone have a suggestion on what % looks the best and whether it's a bad ideal for visibility when off reading! Thanks

I'm full on 3M Limo all the way around. No visibility issues, due to the fact that the windows roll down...

I went 20%(what was legal) over the factory tint so like 15% fronts and 10% rears. No problems really except when it gets dark but you get used to it and aux lighting/ rock lights would help then.

I've also got 20% on 2 fronts (somewhat legal) and then 5% everywhere else aswell as the tint strip. I think it's about perfect, it is really dark looking out the back windows at night, but I have the backup camera so I never have an issue with it.

I'm not sure what the percentage is, but I had my front windows tinted to match the factory back windows. I wouldn't go any darker for my preferences, but others may want something a pinch darker. Here's a little before/after of my truck to see what my tint looks like.

I can tell you it will make visibility an issue, especially when backing up without a camera. I don't have one on mine so I'm planning on just matching the rears like I had my 04 quad cab. I do plan on going over the back window to darken it up though. I found that making the rear window darker makes it pretty much blacked out when looking thought the windshield and you don't completely kill your visibility on your door glass. I think the power window motors on my 04 had more miles than the truck by the time I sold it because I put em down every time I backed up at night. It's worth it though.

I went 20% up front and 5% on the back over factory tint.

In Alberta tint is illegal, but I roll with my sun roof shade open and have yet to be bugged.

It's not legal here in Jersey either but you will be tagged for it here. Much more common now though since they can't fail you for inspection because of it anymore. Awesome looking truck! It looks good and I know it's off topic but I love that color! I just saw a 1500 in that color today and was wondering if they ever used it on the power wagons. Guess I know now. These trucks are like a disease, I want an 05, a later 3rd gen, a Laramie 4th gen in that awesome dark grey with no graphics and one in that copper color. Well, and my 2010 because I have to say I love this truck. Oh and I also really want a 1941-1967! Now if I only had a few hundred thousand to spend on toys I'd be content.

I only had my front two done and they are 5% darker than whatever the back is from the factory. I had them matched when I got the truck but the front always seemed lighter since the sun was coming in from the windshield. Luckily my tint dude is awesome and he changed it for me and said he should have known better to begin with.

Your truck is gorgeous. I wish I went with full glass sides on my topper too, oh well.

Yeah, I've seen one other copperhead wagon for sale. I doing imagine too many were done in this colour, but I love it.

I had 5% done over the factory 35 in the back and it's nice can't see into it at all. And the 25 up front makes me happy.

You can get a tint ticket in Alberta for it and they can ask you to peel it off. But I don't care lol.

I know I'm in the minority, but I think tint is a bad idea, aside from being illegal in many jurisdictions. It limits your ability to see and to be seen, day or night, and can slow your reaction in emergencies. If you want to keep the cab cooler, 3M makes a clear film (no tint at all) that blocks a high percentage of the UV rays. That keeps the cab cooler, protects the interior materials, and reduces the chances of skin cancer (been there, done that). Even the clear film reduces light transmission by a few percentage points, so a slight effect on you ability to see out. If you want tint just because it looks cool, I'm not the guy to comment on that.

I've actually grown to need it because I'm fairly certain I have sensitive eyes. I've never went to the doctor about it since I'm stubborn and don't want to pay for a rather pointless visit, but every time I'm in either of my trucks, I HAVE to wear my sunglasses if it's sunny out, even with 5% almost all the way around, I still find myself squinting often and it hurts after awhile, even on bright cloudy days I still wear them. Before I got my windows tinted on my ranger I have for a dd it almost hurt to drive it without sun glasses on and no tint. It does make it a pain looking out the back glass at night when I occasionally need to though.

I had eye surgery and the tint helps with the sensitivity. But, if the trucks would come from the factory with no tint at all, I might leave it that way but I can't stand the look of them "out of balance" OCD I guess.
