Additional skid plates?
Additional skid plates?
I have been searching but can't find info on whether or not there are areas on my 2015 PW that need additional or improved skid plates over the stock factory included skid plates, diff guards etc... Any links or input would be appreciated. Also, I am trying to find the ideal rock rail. WhiteKnuckle sent me an email stating that it would be a couple of months before they offered rails for the 2015. I was looking at Aluminess rails, but haven't heard back from them yet regarding availability. I thought about having a local shop make up a set of my own design, but think that could be pretty expensive. Thanks
Re: Additional skid plates?
The skid plates (at least on a 3rd gen) will bend. I have bent my front steering stabilizer skid plate 2x. Once while trying to jack the front up with a floor jack & once on a rock. It did its job, it protected the steering stabilizer both times, but it did bend. If you want them not to bend, then 1/4" or more-or stronger steel, is the way to go but then they get ungodly heavy & maybe need stronger mounts. The whole "weakest link thing." The original rock rails are 1/4" & they will also bend.
Re: Additional skid plates?
The differentials appear to be vunerable. What is a good choice for protecting these?

Re: Additional skid plates?
Mercenary Off Road can build additional skid plating & differential covers. DT ProFab & Dodge Off Road build stout differential covers as well.
Re: Additional skid plates?
I will likely be having a friend of mine that has a fab shop whip me up some skidplates to replace the tube skids under my Power Wagon. Mine are so bent I am shocked they haven't broken yet!!!!
Re: Additional skid plates?
I am pretty sure I'm going to install the purple cranium diff guards. I like the open design as they won't trap mud and water so much

Re: Additional skid plates?
Take a look at the DTProFab. It has one huge advantage over the PC rear guard - increased oil capacity.

Re: Additional skid plates?
After taking my PW off road for the first time this past weekend, I realized the importance of front and rear diff protectors. I looked at the DT Profab and then found AEV's protector with a skid plate, unfortunately from their website it seems that they only do that one for the Jeep. Anyone else might have a diff protector/slider for the PW? It seems to me with my rather limited off-roading experience that the slider would be a worth while sacrifice to losing the 1" or so of clearance to gain the ease of the diff sliding over a boulder vs. hitting and grinding the diff lip.

Yea, that was kind of a still-born project that don't go any where.Mr.Smith wrote:I recall an Iron Pig prototype...

Todd at Mercenary does great work and is a good guy. He is where I got my bumper. For a diff gaurd, I have been very happy with the Carli guard, it has taken numerous hits with only some scratches to the finish, easily saved me more in repairs than it cost to purchase
