I absolutely LOVE the new 6.4. Like others here, I will never have the need for a diesel but I do like the extra low end grunt that the 6.4 provides. Plus ram will more than likely fine tune the 6.4 to provide even more (low end) torque in the future.
As for the "stereotypical" diesel truck owners....you see a lot of young troops on post driving around in their diesels just like what you guys are talking about

2003-current: IMHO, many people ended up with diesels ONLY BECAUSE the gas transmissions gear ratio's were a ALL WRONG for a HD truck. Plain and simple. Period. Because of this, the only way to compensate for this issue, was the diesel, which had gobs of torque, to make up for the pathetic transmissions gear ratios & horrible shifting patterns. I know. I had one. 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 QC 4x4 w/Hemi, 545RFE, 4.10's, HD cooling, snow plow prep, & towing pkg. It was HORRIBLE for towing the exact same camper i have now.
Same engine in my 2008 PW, different trans. A REAL 6-speed. Pulls the same camper with no sweat at all. No 2 overdrives, no 2nd prime, no kick down gears. If they made an auto trans with the same gear ratios as my G56 manual, MANY, MANY people, would have bought the Hemi, instead of the diesel. I am not knocking the diesel at all. It is just that, you really do not need a diesel to tow 10,500 lbs or less.
Remember.......not too long ago, our fathers & grandfathers used to tow 6000+ lbs with cars & station wagons.
This is just my humble opinion. YRMV.

I am going to chime in on the GM V-8 mileage claims. A Denali Yukon XL does not get anywhere near the mileage that was posted, my wife has one (a 2013), it has averaged 14.6mpg from the day we got it. (I want to say 28,000 miles on it now) That's about 55/45 (highway/city), completely stock. My 2012 Power Wagon got close to that in stock trim (I want to say 14mpg) and gets 11mpg with 37s with about 47,000 miles on it. The Denali has cylinder deactivation on the highway, the Power Wagon does not and the Denali is lighter yet still, the Denali's MPG is not that much better!) The best mpg vehicle we own is the 1992 2wd Ram Charger (360 V-8/auto) that I just picked up for just over a grand as a DD beater. It gets 15mpg doing 160 miles a day highway commute. (4 days a week) The best mpg truck I have ever owned is a tie- 2007 Silverado Classic Duramax/Allison and 2013 Toyota Tacoma 4.0L/six speed stick (both stock, Duramax had slightly larger than stock tires (265/75R16 rather than stock 245/75R16), Tacoma ran dinky stock tires)- both of those trucks averaged 16mpg. (Duramax over the course of 107,000 miles I owned it, Tacoma over the course of 3,000 miles I owned it) The fact that the dinky tired Taco only got 1/2 again the mileage of my 37" tired Power Wagon is the real head scratcher!!!
Re: Ram had 3 diesel options for the Power Wagon, but they .
Oh, and I want a 6.4L (or a 5.0L diesel!) and G56 in my 2012, that would rock!!!!! (if Ram made the Power Wagon in regular cab shortbed with a 6.4L (or an Ecodiesel!!! (heck, I think the Ecodiesel V-6 would be plenty of grunt for a regular cab, I'd take it!!!), G56, and 4.56 gears, I would trade my 2012 in tomorrow!!!!! It'd have to be reg cab, shortbed, stick shift (all three criteria met) for me to trade though!)

Sorry to hear about your horrible gas milage with your denali. Weve never came anywhere near that bad before. we got 16-20 with the denali. With the wifes new rig we went with the slt instead, and that gets 19-20 mpg easily too. Now hook a travel trailer to it, and she dips into single digits lol.
