That's what I'm thinking of, going with a hybrid. I looked at the toyos on line and like them as well. Decisions decisions

Coming up on 3k miles and besides the slight radial left pull on one of the tires, I'm still loving the Cooper STT's. Besides the awesome traction in every condition so far and their good looks (biased opinion), the best part is they barely ever hold a rock in the tread pattern and when they do it is easy to pluck it out before it ends up in someone's windshield. Did find a sheared off 1/4" hex bolt in between the lugs the other day though. Didn't harm the tire. Weird.
2005 Black Pow Wagon mods: DT Profab Steering Brace, Gibson superflow catback single exhaust system, Locker Bypass, Moog ball joints (see how long they last), New OEM track bar bushings, T-steering upgrade w/ Bilstein 5100 steering damper, Power everything, Heated leather seats, (keeps the better half happy), Rear window defrost, Bilstein 5100 shocks, 35x12.5x17 Toyo AT2 Extremes, Customized H2 alloy wheels, Original rock rails with family friendly steps welded on, Tri fold tonneau, Hi-lift extreme jack, Tool box along with all the essential PW gear. New winch cable, Winch TPS bypass, Cardan joint grease zerk discovery. New front grille assembly. Magnesium Chloride under coating.

If you ever happen to see me running somewhere, you should start running too. :)

The dealership that I bought my truck from is putting the Toyo RT on the trucks that they lift. I got a up close look at them and they are Bad Azz w/ a 45,000 mile warranty... That will be my next tire here real quick.. Going with the 35's and going to sell the DuraTracs

They'll get louder as they wear. When I took mine off after 35k miles, I could hear the hum inside the cab. However, they are, indeed, a badass tire. I really liked them.

It'll take solid proof for me. The current BFG's have a bad reputation for balance and piss poor traction.

I think the bad rap the BFG AT receives is from people using them in mud. Of course they are gonna suck.

I have had a few different sets of the KO's and thought they were a very good tire when using them for what they are designed for.... just don't go to the local mud drags thinking your gonna kick some @ss. Great traction on basically all road types from dry to wet to snow and slush and everything in between. I never had a balancing issue or poor wear with them, and they last a very long time.

I have watched a few different videos about the new KO2's and it seems like all they did was improve on the tire.

This ain't my first rodeo...

The bad reputation is from years of use and years of reports. First off, they were the OEM tires on PW. They sucked. They chunked up terribly in rocks in mild use, were replaced with less than 2K, and looked like they had 20k on'm.

I've owned AT's several times over the 35 years, and found them to provide decent wear, but that's about the only thing. The old tire was easily stone bruised, causing tread separations. When worn down some, they were the worst hydroplaning tire I've ever owned.

Balance problems are common across the board with BFG's.

So, they have a lot to prove...

I think for guys who want a good winter/wet terrain tire this new ko will be a good option I agree cactus that they will have to be proved but they will have a large market up here for sure given they are severe weather rated and available on large sizes....

I found the old BFG AT KO's to be pretty bad in snow and ice an will never get them again for that reason alone.

I agree I didn't like them for snow I would rate them poor like an all out mud terrain. My tire guy on the other hand recommends them to everyone for winters on a large truck?....

Man, if I had issues like that with a tire I wouldn't be too keen on them either LOL. But honestly, I have never had any issues with the several sets I have had. That being said, I mainly only used them on the road. What width tire were you using when having traction issues in the snow? The 12.5's dont do so hot (too wide), but the skinnier ones (285 or less) I have found them to be very good on the snowy roads. Only thing I have personally used that is better is a straight up snow tire (like the cooper and hankook snowies). I have had a few sidewalls get a bulge over the years with them (the mud terrains), but still no balancing issues.

I didn't like the the BFG AT's in snow in the factory size. My favorite tire so far for snow/off road has been the Duratracs.

My sipped nitto trails were better than the stock AT's in the snow we get around here. I could drift my truck in 4wd with light throttle on the stockers, no where near as easy with the Nittos.

Over all for my truck I was very, very let down by the KO's.....and don't get me started with the damn rocks they threw.

Bfg kos are dangerous! Never again. I'm happy with the factory good years on the new power wagon. Also on my ramcharger and the diesel I had before. Good in the deep snow, mountain and paved roads. I'll keep the stock size. Better for mud and snow. 37"s look great but then I'd need a step ladder. Lol!

I agree 100%. I'm looking forward to getting rid of these BFG's when they hit 30,000 miles. Goodbye BFG's, Hello Toyo Open Country A/T II's.

Hmm. From my own experience, I couldn't ask for a better tire in the slop and snow on the highway. Proved to me again last night coming over the coquihalla in BC, in 6" of snow over running water, and able to maintain 65-90kmh. I've used them on jeeps, 'yotas, and now my Powerwagon, so it'll be interesting to see how they hold up. These are a 315/70/17, and I run them low for pressure, around 38 on the front, and 27-30 in the back, without a load, or towing. Yeah, they chuck rocks like nobodies business!! Can't disagree on that!! But I've always been pleased with them. That being said, when these are done, I wanna try duratracs, studded for my winter shoes.

I was reading through this thread, but I lost track of which tires you are referring to. Are they the Toyo AT, or the BFG KOs?

My Toyo MT OC 35x12.5 are coming up for replacement, and I'm trying to figure out what's best as a balance as a daily driver and off road & snow. I was simply thinking of getting the same thing. I'm also contemplating Nitto Trail Grappler M/T or Mud Grappler MT 35*12.5*17.

I just put a used set of 35" Nitto Mud Grapplers on my truck and they seem to work well in the snow and surprisingly good on the icy roads but it is like flying a Cessna down the highway. Very loud, not a good choice for long trips.

Have a set of 35" on my SASed Dakota. Good year round traction and very quiet for a mud tire. For the record they are made by Cooper.
