I think this stupid double cardon u joint is to blame it was dry as a bone! :wtf: As predicted my dealer mechanic said the lube joint doesnt exist! Im just venting at this point, but I would like chrysler to replace my dead parts since they maintained my truck for the first 100k miles. I now have 180K so i doubt it but im pissed off right now. Ill try to post some pics for you all to laugh at me. Matthew

Sucks. No one is going to laugh. Seems like that mysterious cardon grease zerk in the u-joint is elusive and more than a few people have spent some serious time trying to find it. It's a shame the dealer doesn't know how to do that---they should shoulder some of the blame if you exclusively relied on them to perform regular maintenance.

Quoting so I can look up my posts and find this pic when time comes to lube this joint so I don't grenade the transfer case....

Keep In mind that's a super clean driveshaft lol ours aren't as forgiving as that pic so just keep looking if you don't find it in the first minute. Also I used a very small punch to make sure the spring and zerk weren't seized before I tried pumping grease into it.

I used an old worn out primer pocket brush to find mine the first time cleaning around up in there, now it gets a shot or two every oil change.

That's the best thing to do I have always lubricated mine with rust check and high pressure grease externally. To keep the rust from working it's way under the u joint boots and messing the needles up.

If you had the dealer do the service, I'd take them to court. There is no doubt in my mind that dealers are not servicing this part as instructed by the mfg. they are liable.

Awsome pics lol id imagine most dealers aren't doing it because your average lof guy isn't Educated or properly trained by Chrysler. Blame the dealer not the underpaid guy they have doing the services chances are he's flat rate with no garuntees and if he can't find the grease zerk that we all spend hours looking for why would he. Blame dodge

IDK if either dealer that I go to has ever greased mine, I'll grease it this weekend! What type of grease does it call for?

What kind of needle is needed for this job? Never used one before. Does it attach to the end of a grease gun?

It attatches to the zerk fitting (female side) quick connect already on most grease guns it's about the diameter of a pencil and comes to a gradual point I will try and remember to take a picture of mine when I get home

This is what I use. Google grease gun needle. Pokes the tiny hole on the double cardan joint nicely. A few pumps until grease squirts out the joint and your good to go. I do mine every oil change.

That guy probably works a lot better then mine. Mines a lot larger and more of a pain. It's larger seems to fit the zerk barelly. I'll try this one next time I do mine

Any of these will work. I have the top two and the top one I got to grease my air tools but it does fine on the axle.

The needle is nice because you don't have to hold it in place. It stays put once inserted leaving both hands free to manhandle the grease gun.

Granted you would think a dealer service tech would know the proper maintenance procedures on a vehicle...but as a lot of people have seen time and time again even the salesmen have no idea what a PW is. Why would you let someone touch your vehicle that has no idea what a locked differential is...(I'm guessing most Ram techs). Maybe its just a way to justify voiding the warranty on my truck and the wife's Rubicon; but god I feel a lot better about having a guy come out to look at my vehicle while I'm explaining the problem that's covered up to the elbows in grease with a giant beard as opposed to a slick suit wearing fast talker that seems like they should be selling shower curtain rings as most service reps are. Its always driven me nuts trying to explain a problem to a person that has no clue how vehicles work. I say do maintenance (at the absolute least) like this yourself, then you know its done right.

Thanks for the pictures all. Never used one... You learn something new everyday. I'll be sure to service mine regularly. This site is awesome. :D

Ya I hear ya beryl I'm a service tech and it's easier to just play stupid when I go in there. For service though I do everything myself because I am flat rate I know how the guy in the grease feels when he starts losing money on some dirty ass p.wagon that's been through hell and back....but you think the dealer would send a service diagram to include every service on 2500/3500 with a good description saying grease this a hole

Especially since there are stickers telling the dealer service guys it must be done. I loved the " those stickers are on every truck, they don't mean anything" answer I get from the dealership each time.

what sticker are you guys refering to? I just got my truck back-talked to the mechanic about the fitting ahead of time. He tried to lube it on the bench and failed so i did it in the driveway no prob. I did find a specific reference to the fitting in my owners manual with a decent picture, but I dont see any stickers. Checked my buddies 2009 diesel manual and it has no pic but mentions a front driveshaft lube fitting. Do those trucks have the same fitting or is it PW only? anyway ill be lubeing all my pals trucks myself if the diesel rigs have the same fitting. Freakin dealers.
