fan clutch noise

I realized that after parking on an incline and not driving my truck for 4-5 days that the fan clutch will really roar for about 15-20 minutes after startup. Its really bad at anything over 2500 rpm. Is this normal? If my truck is parked level I have never had this problem. The problem always goes away so I don't think my fan clutch is going bad it just has something to do with being parked don an incline.

exactly as you describe... Because of the angle, it messes with the fluid inside of the clutch unit itself. I have had this happen to mine exactly the same way. I have since installed a black magic electric fan kit (bolt on) into my 05 dodge ram 2500 hemi and have felt noticeable gains in HP, and a little better fuel economy.

well,,, No. sort of you are going to remove the factory clutch fan, (the entire thing) but leaving on the belt...... and replace it with a really neat electric fan and bolts right into the stock configuration that includes the fan, the shroud, and the wiring and control pod (made to perfectly fit the dodge ram. it comes on and off depending on the temp of the radiator.. I installed mine on my truck, and have seriously tested it in Moab and many other hard core wheeling destinations, WITH the ac blowing, and it ALWAYS keeps my stroked (yes, Stroked) 5.7 hemi (now 6.4L) on NOS nice and cool.. even when beating on the throttle as hard as possible. a really great investment to get about 12 more HP and better fuel economy on the hemi. You will instantly feel the difference as soon as you drive the truck after the install.... I consider it a must do item..

it even comes with the bracket to remount the overflow bottle to the new shroud.. it looks factory when complete...

Where did you order your from? I want to do this for mine for water crossings and for extra HP for my old wore out Hemi lol

I let my truck sit for 5 days and the fan got stuck on again. I drove one hour to another town at 70mph and the damn thing was still roaring. On the way back home I put it to the floor and I could tell the fan was killing the horsepower. the fan finally shut off when I hit 4500-5000 rpm. I think I need to take the truck in to the dealer but I know there are going to say im crazy because its not stuck on right now. At first I thought is was an issue with it sitting for longs periods of time on an incline but I think the fan clutch is faulty. What do you guys think? Its a 2013 PW. Thanks

Sounds faulty to me. I don't think it's an uncommon problem. At least not unheard of.

A different fan clutch problem, I've had my '05 for nine years now with no problems or failures except one. With 9,500 miles on it the fan clutch failed and the fan wouldn't engage. Replaced under warranty with no problems to date.

I put the Black Magic on mine (ordered through Amazon), and love it. If you're having any trouble with your stock fan, I'd recommend replacing it with the Black Magic 183. I also got the (way too expensive for what it is) illuminated switch so that I could turn it on at 100% (towing, crawling, etc.), let the controller do it's job, or turn it off (water crossings). It worked out really nicely. I can post some pictures you want to see what it all looks like.

Here are some quick pictures. I used to do a lot of these kind of projects and Installs when I worked on race cars but this was super easy.

Wire I tapped into for 12 keyed power (I didn't want my fan running without the ignition on - pink w/ green stripe)

Top Bracket (included in kit, as well as a bottom bracket)

Variable Speed Controller (included in kit)

Fan (included in kit)

I was in a bit of a hurry when I installed it, so the wiring isn't exactly how I'd like, or how I'd have done it for a customer, but it looks decent. Up next, some additional pictures of the switch and other randomness.

I like it ! My plan for mods is if it 'aint broke, don't fix it. But as things wear out or fail I'll repair with OEM or superior parts accordingly, I.E. electric fan, RCV axles, free spin hubs etc. .

My truck did have a dual fan setup. The engine driven fan was used to cool the coolant, via the radiator. It didn't have an electric fan as a "pusher," to compliment it, if that's what you've got Sheepdog. Stock, the 3g trucks use the engine drive fan to cool the coolant, but have a separate electric fan to pull air through the condenser - for A/C use only. I haven't taken a look under the hood of a 4g truck, but I would assume that the setup is the same.

If you post a picture of your setup, I could give you an idea if it looks the same.

Cruz - My next upgrade is going to be a free-spin kit - I'll post a thread when I get to it. If I'm lucky, that will be within the next couple of months. You've got a good plan. I chose to do my fan, and will do the free spin kit and some other odds and ends (diff fluids, bearings and races in the rear axle, trans fluid, trasfer case fluids, belt tensioner, belt, and water pump) because my truck just rolled over 100k miles and it's my daily driver. I've got a baby on the way, so I figure that spending a little time and money to do things before they break not only saves me time and headache in the long run, but it may also help to minimize the chance of my family stuck on the side of the road. Call me crazy, but I'm a guy who likes the preventative maintenance end of things, even if it's a bit of overkill.

Speaking of belt tensioners and pullys, does anybody make a high quality superior replacement other than OEM or off the shelf parts store kind ? Maybe something that a High Performance Hemi builder would use.
