Dash Lights

Post by Will » Thu Apr 10, 2014 8:39 am

I've worn out a keyboard searching but no luck. On my '07 and '03 Rams, you could turn the dash lights completely off with the dimmer switch while the truck was running and the head lights off. On my '10, you can only dim them with the headlights on and when you turn the headlights off, the dash goes to as bright as possible. Has anyone found a way around this? I hog hunt at night and want to be able to turn off all lights including the interior. I've pulled every fuse that says anything about lights and can't figure it out. I've tried tapping into the wires going to the rheostat to put an inline toggle switch but apparently it is part of a circuit of wires and I can't figure out what powers it all.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

My “solution” is to place a clean article of clothing or towel over the dash lights. Hanging something over the radio screen is trickier. Maddening, isn’t it?

As much as having to do that pisses me off... it sure works well.
