Gear Ratio/Tire Size Calculator
I posted this in another thread but thought I would create a new thread for it. Maybe we could get this stickied? Since us PW guys are always changing things up, this is a good way to do the calculations and see where you'll end up.
Here's a link to an excel spreadsheet calculator that I made a long time ago and use all the time. This does everything you could possible want for tire sizes and gear ratios. On the far right side, there are comparisons for the 4.10 and 4.56 ratios in high and low range for the 66RFE. I've also got some stuff on there for the 8 speed that's in my Jeep. Can you imagine having this in the Power Wagon? That would totally make up for the 4.10s with an almost 50:1 crawl ratio in first gear! Then with 4.56s you're looking at a massive 58:1!

Those of us with the G56's have a crawl ratio of 78:1. The 2014 has some excellent new features, but the gear ratios on the G56 keep me from even thinking about changing. That, and the fact that I've only got 35,000 miles on my '07.

I used this site http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html when deciding on gears for my SAS 02 Dakota QC. Very handy and shows a gear by gear breakdown with a side by side comparison chart.

I thought this might be helpful. I recently came across a calculation for torque loss (to the ground) due to larger tire diameters. It's pretty basic.
For every inch of additional tire diameter torque (to the ground) is reduced by 3.5%. So, if you go from 33's to 35's you lose 7% of your torque (to the ground). 33's to 37's would decrease torque (to the ground) by 14%. In my 2013, with the 5.7L (400ft/lbs of torque) I would lose 28ft/lbs of torque (to the ground) going to 35's and 56 ft/lbs of torque (to the ground) going to 37's.
Of course, this is a variable driven calculation, but it should give a base line for understanding what gains in engine performance/drivetrain efficiency are necessary to compensate for larger tires.
Helpful to anyone?

I'm guessing the additional weight has a huge impact on additional tire height/torque loss also. Deffinately not as dramatic but would have an effect. Really wishing they made 5.13's for the 10.5 latelly. Don't want to touch my engine or programming to make power and compensate for the 37'sSheepdogOutdoorsman wrote:I thought this might be helpful. I second that. Has anyone changed to 4.56 or 4.88 on a 2015? I want to help my towing and low end with 35s and for 37s next year.. who has the best gears for the 15?

You can get 5.13 gears for your 2015 u have an 11.5 rear. I need 5.13 gears really really bad lol

It is much easier on the trans etc however with 37's I think your alittle under driven still... 4.56 are a nice gear set up for up to 37's in my 4th gen I upshift just a bit more on hills but the free spin kit has helped free up a bit of power as well

Wow, old thread alert.
DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THIS but---If i am not mistaken the newest 11.5's are different than the old/er 11.5's & the gear sets do not interchange. I think i read the pumpkin needs to be modified or else they dont work at all. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me will chime in.
& for the record---I have anxiety now because my 08' is coming up on 41k !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
