2012 wagon suspension suggestions Want 35's :D

Post by 2wagons1driveway » Thu Jan 17, 2013 7:24 pm

Hey guys new to the forum! So much useful info on here but also making life confusing... :( I have a 2012 ram that's about a year old now and I'm toying with the idea of modifying the front end to fit 35" tires and still be able to flex out as if they were 33" however id like to do this as minimally as possible I realize in most cases to perform this mod you have to replace the front control arms in order to squeeze these tires in there on stock wheels I have had 35" tires on the truck with an aftermarket rim before and no lift just some zip ties on the rear splash gaurd to keep lugs from tearing it off however off reading and suspension jounce caused me to take them off and sell them. However I do miss the added ground clearance of the tires. Does anyone have cost effective :thppt: suggestions lol if there's a decent front coil kit or control arm kit for wagons specifically that possibly involves leaving the brake lines and shocks stock I'd love to hear about it! I wish I could post some pics on my phone but I can't figure it out my dad and I both have newer body style pw's so I'm interested to get bigger tires then him :excited:

Take a look at this thread on Dodge Talk. This guy figured the magic of 35" tires and no lift on the 4th Gen Power Wagon.

Hey thanks alot I can't see the pics but it's good to know the offset he used to clear the 315's I had 315's on the truck before (they were eagle alloys and i think the offset was too aggressive) but they rubbed excessively on full articulation and dodge gave me warranty issues when my swaybar failed due to water ingress?! Some dealers are ridiculous When it comes to power wagons and warranty claims

Welcome to PWR. :D You want rims with back spacing of 5.75" to 5.25". These will keep the tires off of the control arms, and off of the fender corners.

O so the 5.25" to 5.75" will work on the 4th gen wagons? I thought that discussion on dodge talk had a 10 back spacing? Can't be ten inch (hate back spacing can never remember which offset (+ or - )is further from hub or closer to hub) I just want to be able to use the majority of the trucks articulation with a 315/70-17tire at stock suspension height and not have to worry about ripping a flare or fender liner out- I realize this usually requires some rear fender trimming for turning and what not just wasn't quite sure if someone has found the correct offset for a 35" series tire on a stock 4th gen pw to clear the upper fenders and the flares on full articulation

The duraracs are nice for snow, ice, mud. They wear fairly fast on pavement and gravel destroys them. Average 45,000 kms per set. I'm going to buy my brothers diesel rims for the duratrtacs in the winter and get something harder for the summer.

thanks for the info. i really enjoyed my mtz's however their hard compound and lack of sipes made them squirrely as ever in the snow. however i have buddies with them and they love them for all seasons...? guess its driving preferences!

Will post pic upon approval, I run 35's and go to 37's if need be. I put on a Carli suspension with new leafs in the back. I'm running Toyo M/Ts 35x12.50 by 20. I only had very minor trimming on the lower flare at full turn.
2012 Power Wagon, Carli full suspension, Purple Cranium front rear diff covers, Toyo M/Ts 35x12.50 20, Metal Mulisha wheels, Blue Seas fuse box, Blue Seas Maxi inline fuse, Ridig light in bed, painted engine cover, triple flash light mod, offroad switches mounted in cab.
In house but not installed, Buckstop front and rear bumpers, LED lights in rear bumper, 4" and 6" PIAAs for front bumper, Vicking crawler front winch hook.

I finished my lift awhile ago been running the 37's with a -11mm offset 17" wheel and it works okay at full turn and full compression I had to remove the rear fender pinch weld in order to clear safely-you can check out pics in the member builds sections
