6.1L engine

Post by Saltzbaseball » Sun Dec 30, 2012 9:42 am

Hey I'm new to the form and I'm really wanting to get a power wagon but I haven't decided just yet. I just wanted your guy's opinions on this; has anyone tried to upgrade the engine or drop in a bigger one? Also do u think the 5.7 could use a little more help?
Thanks Brandon

You can always use more power!

I like my 5.7. It's not a race truck but with the 4.56 it does get up and go and it crawls nice. I towed my bumper pull camper at 5200 lbs from my place to Vancouver Island 3100 km with some mean hills up to 13%. It handled it fine. I've Towed about 13,000lbs with it, wouldn't recomend this but it will pull.

If I need power in the future I may entertain the 1/2 ton S/C kit???

The fuel is what gets you on this mochine. I use cheap beaters to rat bag around, saves km's on my truck 2010 with 30,000kms.

I agree with yetlikesbeer... If you need more ass, swap your plugs out to 1 step colder and gapped at .030 and add a nitrous oxide kit !!!!!!! You can fire 75hp ALL DAY LONG, and if you really want to have heart stopping fun, dial it up to 125hp, and retard your timing 4 degrees. all for less than $600

I got 8 bottles through mine with 0 issues... I am waiting to see how much she can handle (before she blows up) then I will have an excuse to do this:

The new Hemi's have quite a bit of power I've towed my travel trailer (7500lbs loaded) through mountain passes and it has no problem keeping up to traffic. But, like others have said before, you will eat up the fuel! I also don't find a shortage of power when doing regular driving like merging into freeway traffic. I think there is a bit of a misconception out there that these trucks are too heavy for the hemi but I for one am quite satisfied with how well it pulls. It some different magazine tests I have seen 0-60 times somewhere around 8.5 seconds.
Loving my 3/4 ton version of my old Jeep TJ!!!!!

I have the 345hp Hemi in mine (new ones are like 390hp). I tow at max load of 10,500 lbs & she pulls it just fine---but i have the G56 manual trans that, sadly is no longer avail. The gear ratios in my trans make ALL the difference, IMHO, when towing that much with a gas engine.
1) 6.29:1
2) 3.48:1
3) 2.10:1
4) 1.38:1
5) 1.0:1
6) 0.79:1
REV) 5.74:1

WAYYY deeper low gears than the auto.
