Alright guys it's time to start logging this new venture!! This build is going to be updated on Instagram fairly constantly as progress gets headway. #dpw37 #bastardwagon #budgetbuild
Alright let's talk goals
I've always wanted to do a near prerunner/ rock crawler/ hunting truck. Pretty much go anywhere at any time.
Now this is going to be somewhat of a budget build to an extent but at the same time it's gotta be good
Suspension is planned 18-20" rear and 16-18" front. But at ride height no higher than a 3" suspension setup
Rear is going to be a 4 link triangulated
Front will be a long arm possibly triangulated
Steering will be most likely be standard with hydro assist unless full triangulated <---for cost reasons. For now.
Power? As much as possible
Rear will be a spool and front will be a actuated locker of some kind
Tires will be 37"
Winch of course!!
And the truck must be as purely simple and as fun as possible!!!
I have been planning this for some time and have always wanted to do an old school big block powered truck
I picked up a 2500 reg cab long box 2007 for $500. It has no drivetrain other than the axles. Which are in ok condition. Which is fine because I have a set of 08 axles in excellent condition. And I have enough parts lying around to rebuild most of 2 trucks. But it's a base model with crank windows and it will be perfect!!
The engine is going to be a '75 Ford 460.....hold on. What!!!! Yea!! Why??? It was free. Well it was given to me 25 years ago by my father. In which I replaced the water pump, rad, thermostat, did an oil change and parked it with less than 20 miles of blowing down the country roads. Then I parked it and lost the keys. So why??? It's a big block!! And why not. Ford used to be good. Before 1980. Plus it comes with a c6 3spd tranny. With a 1:1 3rd gear. I can work with that. I also picked up an all mechanical Holley 750 carb and a fuel regulator. Why else? If this fits and runs and drives....it's easy to make 500 hp and 500ft/lbs. plus after 25years of sitting and shitty gas it started!!!! Easy to fix and maintain. I'm in
So what's next? Well lots of tube, rear coilover cantilever suspension (to preserve the box) and of course all the major regular issues.
I'm looking at either finding a way to install the nv273 tcase or.... A divorced axletech t600 from #western_canadian_rockwell
I'm going to stay with the 3.73 gear ratio from the diesel as the math using a 37" tire is equavalant to the original 28" tire with a 2.75 axle that the 460 was mated to.
Now comes more fun. This donor truck is a long box... But I have.. And extra short box from a quad cab that's a little dented and has a bunch of bullet holes (speed holes) in it. But it's still in decent shape. Being that I'm doing a link in the rear I have the chance to shorten the wheel base. <----let me know opinions on this one.
Alright enough with the talking. Here's some pictures to get it started. This project isn't going to happen overnight but it will happen. And the diesel build will also continue. And don't worry. No cheby parts
Ideas guys. I'm all ears.
