Need help w/ 1970 w300

Post by CM1970W300 » Fri Apr 15, 2016 5:49 pm

I'm here out of desperation really,
I bought a 1970 w300 back in Oct 15, and have been to 3 different shops trying to get the brakes done, and here it is 6 months later and I'm still trying to get the brakes done because they either couldn't be bothered to find the right socket, or even take the time to look at the truck.
--Does anyone happen to know what size socket is needed to remove the hub nuts so i can get these brakes done??
-I have tried the sizes I've seen people say are the right ones on other websites, and no luck.
-2-9/16" fit inside the hole, but was too small for the nut.
I tried 2-5/8" but was too big to even fit the hole.
I'm sure needing some help with this information so i can do the work myself and don't have to take it into like a midas, or somewhere.
The truck was sitting untouched since 2006 in tehechapi. CA when I bought it, so i don't know how much work it needs until I can get these brakes done, and I'm about ready to throw in the towel.
Any and all info would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Colibri

I'm sorry, I don't have an answer off the top of my head for you on this. Best thing to do is break out the dial caliper and measure the nut for yourself. If you don't have one, harbor freight has them super cheap. Good luck man!

Sorry, I have absolutely no idea. The size socket between 2-9/16" and 2-5/8" would be 2-19/32", however I can find no such thing anywhere on the 'net. Is it possibly metric? If so the socks should be somewhere around 64-66mm. Got any pics?

I would first try what Colibri suggested and measure yo' junk.

Are you talking about a spindle nut? If so, you'll need to search for a "spindle nut socket" which are much thinner than a regular socket. It could be the 2-5/8" but need the right socket.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.
