I really like that setup. Are you able to draw straight out of the holster, or does it try to pivot at the ball? I worry about the pivoting motion slowing the draw.

The 1" Ram balls are rubber coated, once the arm is tightened down the holster does not move. The rubber coating provides some slight dampening but the arm does not rotate on the balls. It's very secure.

I have pondered doing something similar for a while now. but my gut instinct says "DON"T DO IT, YOU LIVE IN NY State", & I may get shot if some scared to death-(STD) rookie sees it before i have a chance to tell them it's 100% legal. What a f-ed up world we live in.

Reloaderguy, does it stay cool enough in Oregon that you won't have problems with the kydex getting soft? I nearly ruined a kydex holster in my car when I lived back in Oklahoma.

Good question. It gets over 100 in the summer and will probably soften the Kydex if I leave it in the truck.

Are you keeping an extra pistol in the truck full time or switching from belt to truck holster and back to belt when you get in and out?

The pistol doesn't stay in the truck full time but it is specifically for roadtrips. I have other holsters for the G20 though.

Could have missed it when skimming through the previous pages, have you measured your RTs on and off the truck? I'm curious how they compare to my 35" RT (34.5" @ 40psi off the truck)

Gotcha. I would love to have a full time truck gun but I think those days are past. I miss seeing a full gun rack in the window of almost every pickup that you saw.

Hi Reloaderguy - love your truck, new PW owner and wanting to go with 37"s, wondering about your comment about the x13.5 vs x12.5 - would the wider x13.5's have fit the same as the x12.5 or would more trimming have been required? I like the way the wider tires look, a friend at work as the x12.5 on his truck and I think they look a little narrow (he also has a 6" lift).

Also, I am a complete newb when it comes to backspacing and offset...I really like the AEV Katla wheels which AEV shows as being 6" backspacing...would that size backspacing bring the wheels/tires further in or out from the wheels you choose? Do you think the 6" of backspacing would create more or less trimming required? Ive trimmed plastic finder liners before but never metal/pinch welds...a little intimidated.

I'm not sure how AEV calculates their backspacing but +27mm offset on a 17x8.5" wheel is 5.3" of backspace. The KMC XD's I am running are 17x9" with +18mm offset (5.2" backspace). Your question really depends on the the tire you choose; 13.5" wide Toyo MT's are actually 14" whereas Coopers STT's are 13" wide. The AEV wheel will require less plastic and metal trimming but only because they are narrower. The 12.5" Toyo RT's mounted on a 17x9" wheel with +18mm offset do not rub the radius arms or sway bar and there is enough clearance for 14" wide Toyo MT's. If and when I decide to go to a wider tire I will probably need to take a little more out of the pinch weld. I don't see much of a performance difference with the AEV, it's just .5" narrower.

Thanks for the info reloaderguy! I'm thinking about the Coopers over the Toyo MTs as I don't really need a full MT tire. I think I remember from your build thread (but might be remembering incorrectly) that you trimmed the pinch welds? I've never done that before...how do you do that? Dremel or grinder? Since I have never done that, it's a little intimidating I haven't looked around for all the 37x13.5 options yet either so might be other or better choices than the Coopers.

8" wide, with 6" backspacing iirc.

If you are looking for a 13.5" wide tire, the toyo rt has that size (12.5 too).

I'm not sure about the wheels yet, I just like the AEV Katla look but if there are other sizes that for better, open to that.

I used an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel and then smoothed it out with sanding discs. I painted the exposed metal when I was done. My truck was about three weeks old when I did it. My neighbors were driving by as sparks were flying of my brand new truck, they must have thought I was insane. I like the AEV wheels well enough, my understanding it they are made by Wheel Pros (KMC's parent company). They should stick out about a quarter inch less that the XD's on my truck.

Got it. So just to confirm, the 1/4 difference that the AEV would be in towards the truck center would still clear the 13.5s?

All things being equal, an 8.5" wide wheel with 27mm offset will clear the body by .25" more than a 9" wide wheel with 18mm offset. You're going to have to trim but they should fit. Caveat Emptor.
