Re: Boogie wagon take 2
I used to have foaming issues all the time with the atf+4 when going hard offroad. I switched to a German fluid called pentosin chf11s and it actually hasn’t foamed or boiled over once since I switched...
Underdrive pully might be a good idea.
You’re going back to the smaller box for faster movement, Tim?

Re: Boogie wagon take 2
I’m going to try the smaller box with a larger diameter ram and depending on results may try a little mix and match with boxes and different ram diameters. Probably going to get 2 additional rams of different sizes to fine tune force and speed.
Right now it’s absolutely perfect for hauling ass, but isn’t great for low speed technical maneuvering. I’ve been using the truck for working in tight rocky terrain with thick cedar cover, so a lot of low speed lock to lock steering towing heavy through tight quarters.
I’ll check out the pentosin, thanks!

Lol it’s pricey as shit here so maybe amsoil is a better option. Any good full synthetic hydraulic oil should be better than atf+4
I prefer something thinner actually as when it does foam it seems to calm faster with thinner fluid

Re: Boogie wagon take 2
Tim does the smaller box have a smaller piston?
Also are you using a stock box with tapped holes, or does the box have a full valve body? One of the reasons I went with PSC for my kits is that they have a full valve body for the hydro assist that goes a long way to flowing better. And their bearings are fucking huge.

Re: Boogie wagon take 2
I haven’t disassembled the two boxes side by side, but I believe the 09 box has a slightly smaller piston than the big mopar box. It’s definitely bigger than the 08 and previous gears though.
The big mopar box I have was tapped by Howe who did not use a valvebody like psc does. I’ve been curious to try one of the psc boxes though, and I may still, in the process of getting my steering dialed in.
The big box I have does not have the upsized lower bearing. It hasn’t been an issue yet, but another reason to try a psc box sometime.
I may buy a gear from psc with the valvebody style ram manifold and send it out to Howe to have the internal steering stops reclocked if the 09 box doesn’t get me where I want to be

I wonder if adjusting the stops is really a big deal. I 100% know when I’ve hit my steering stops and the ram gets no flow of the steering box isn’t turning. I suppose you could overload it but it’s pretty easy in my truck to tell when you’re there and not push any more

The internal clocking is only important for high speed shenanigans. Rockcrawling or normal use it’s exactly as you described.DamageWagon wrote: ↑Wed Nov 14, 2018 11:05 pmI wonder if adjusting the stops is really a big deal. Thanks! Lee I would say you’re a perfect candidate for a desert style ram and box that are clocked to your steering stops. It’s probably worth calling Howe and talking it over. Half the time it’s actually Jeff Howe that answers the phone and he’ll really help you get your setup figured out. It’s pretty likely I’ll be trying out a psc gear at some point and having it clocked by Jeff so maybe I’ll get some of the legwork done for you.2wagons1driveway wrote: ↑Thu Nov 15, 2018 10:35 amA psc kit is in my future... distant future...

I’m Actually fine at speed BUT slow speed turning sucks right now. I’m actually surprised because, at least the terrain I run in at speeds here, high speed steering isn’t bad at all and I like the feedback from the sock style setupColibri wrote:Thanks! Damage Wagon is working on a 3rd gen installation kit that is a little more specific than the PSC universal kit. The actual ram and hose installation is the same for all gens and is a piece of cake. Hydro is a huge step up.

Hydro is sweet for low speed steering. In Moab I was turning my 37” Toyos, aired down, on slick rock, with one finger.2wagons1driveway wrote:I’m Actually fine at speed BUT slow speed turning sucks right now. Hydro assist is the best of both worlds. You still get good steering feedback. It does not have the drawbacks of full hydro.

You said that. The 3rd gen isn't a simple bolt up solution like 4.5 gens.RustyPW wrote: ↑Thu Nov 15, 2018 4:09 pmI have the PSC box that is drilled and tapped already. I bought everything as a kit. I can't get to the pump shaft without taking off the pulley. The part number on the pulley is 53013688AB and 51630P. I searched the part number and can't find if it fits previous generation 5.7 trucks.
Here is what Dorman lists for their crossover part 300-148:
6 Groove
Pulley Bore: 0.663"
Outside Diameter: 5.433"

Re: Boogie wagon take 2
This is a good starting point, trailgear makes a few different sized 6rib pulleys in anodized aluminum for that size shaft. It’s standard TC pump diameter so there are a shit ton of pulleys available.
https://www.trail-gear.com/index.php/po ... 6-rib.html
Psc also has several cb/tc pump pulleys available. Here’s a 5 inches which would be a mild but probably noticeable change

Re: Boogie wagon take 2
What's the significance of offset on the PSC pulley?
Re: Boogie wagon take 2
It’s about belt alignment relative to pump body mounting, they have some that are not offset as well.
They have some 4.5” 6 rib as well. That could be nice for turning those big tires in lower rpm use
