I'll get you some shots in the wild soon sir!

In the meantime, I finally got around to cutting the bedsides. Not too bad a job really.

Thanks Lee! Glad to have you back around here again.
Damn I didn’t realize it’s been so long since I updated. I’m about to swap out my steering gear and ram assist and send some stuff over to Howe to be worked over.

Changing out cylinder diameter and switching back to the 09 box from the mopar big box. Trying to get everything dialed in perfectly for best steering power and response.

I’ll document all that here in a little bit

Is there a PS pump available that would take out that dead spot when you make quick inputs? It feels like turning the wheel too fast for the steering to keep up. I only feel it when I'm backing up a trailer and making quick corrections.

At least on the 5.7 you can directly swap in a TC style or CB style pump from PSC Howe KRC or whoever.

I’ve been using a TC pump now with a filtered remote reservoir for a few years. It keeps up no problem. It’s 1000-1500psi and 4.5ish gpm and that’s with a stock sized pulley. If you need a little more oomph at lower engine rpm you can get a slightly underdriven pulley on there to boost performance.

Off the top of my head I want to say the stock pulley diameter is 5.5” and you can get several different diameters smaller than that

Can the stock pump handle being over-driven? It's only off idle with fast inputs.

Like any pump, yes. Lifespan goes down and fluid foaming goes up. The Amsoil fluid is very good for not foaming.

The constraint would be how much of a change does the pump see at max engine RPM. If some guys are holding 3000+ RPM while towing for hours, under driving the pulley maybe 20% in a truck that usually lives around 2000rpm shouldn’t be a problem. Lifespan would be diminished but that still might mean 300,000 miles.

Marcus is right on, stay conservative with your pulley changes and you should be fine. A 10-20% underdriven pump will make a very noticeable difference.

I’d not run atf+4 underdriven though, amsoil or swepco or something similar would be a worthwhile change.

I'm already running Amsoil. Do you have a part number or source for the pulley? What is the stock size for the 6.4?

I don’t know off hand for the 6.4, if you can snap a pic of your pump and throw a set of dial calipers on the shaft I can probably point you to the right pulley

I know exactly what you are talking about there... happens to me fairly often when I back out of my garage and cut the wheel fast.
