Carli King 2.5's, Carli front Coils and dampener

Post by AceMan » Sat Jun 13, 2015 9:22 pm

I finally got around to getting everything installed. List:

Carli's King 2.5 with stainless steel winter option.
Carli shock towers
Carli Hemi front Coils
Carli Bilstein dampener
Synergy rear shackles (1.5")
Limiting straps
Stainless steel brake lines

It's a totally different feeling to drive it. It feels like it sits 2" higher in the front (I didn't measure before abd after). Bumps are much more tolerated.

When I hit the brakes and come to a complete stop, ut feels like the truck bounces front to back. Is that because of the progressive coils? Anyone else ever experience that?

Well done Sir! Are the remote reservoirs clearing the swaybar? Looks close, probably just how the picture was taken...

I used a fork lift @ work(operated by a coworker) to flex the suspension after completion of a similar setup on my 2009. You may want to disconnect the swaybar and cycle it manually by hand to check clearance, before you cycle the suspension if it seems too close to the pivot point. No sense if risking those Kings.

I'm taking in for an alignment this afternoon. I'll ask the tech if he ca do me a favor for a couple of bucks while in the air to disconnect the sway bar bushing and cycle through its range.

Ok, how's this? The guy moved them up and out of the way behind the splash guard. They should be well out of the way now. Only now I can't show them off, unless there's a better idea?

Mine are up behind the splash guard too. I heated the guard with a heat gun and formed them around the reservoirs. You can't tell that they are there.

I think that rocking is normal? When braking to complete stop as long as nothing is popping. May just be the weight transfer the shocks are allowing to apply nose weight for stopping. Also the shackles should have less resistance as well so they will change your feel on stopping more as they allow the leaf to extend alittle easier!

Shackles make a big difference in the balance of the truck. It frees up the backend. I noticed it as soon as I installed my Thuren shackles. I installed them almost a year after I did the coils, shocks, and track bar, so it was obvious the change came from the shackles.

Ahh, so it's the shackles! Is there anyway to stop that?

Curious Firerescue, did you select the highest lift on the Thuren shackles? I have the Synergy at 1.25". I feel it needs to be a hair higher, but I'm not sure.

I'm not sure if you want to stop it. That feeling is just the rear end being loose and ready to flex. You will get used to it.

Looks good I have the same shocks/springs I couple thoughts:

1) I would cut the wheel well liner so it's not touching the reservoirs or it will rub through the powder coat and thrash the reservoir finish, mine did.
2) Do you have an adjustable track-bar, if not see notes below?
3) That spring shock combination once settled gives you about a 3/4"-1" lift in the front so 1" shackle in the rear is about right.

Notes:
The factory track-bar is now too short at 39" you need an adjustable one set a 39" 1/8 or axle will be off center and your track bar mount on the drivers side will hit the coil bucket mine did see pics below. I have the Carli track-bar.

I do have an adjustable Carli trackbar. I thought it was set to 39.25" at time of installation 3 or 4 years ago. I'll check to see if it's hitting.

And good idea on the splash guard. I think I'll cut it back.

Thanks.

Do you don't think a set of Thuren shackles will be needed to grt another 1/2"?

Ace, it will depend on the condition of your rear springs. I tow alot with mine, and the leaves show it. They are flat, even though I use Timbrens. That is probably why I needed 1 3/4" to make it sit right. You may not need more than you have already. How does it look?
