Now I know why the welds torn. Found this picture from when I installed the nerf bars. The factory welds only go half way around.

Wow!
You get the most strength to resist bending from the welds exactly where those stock welds were missing!!!

Rebuilt the front brake calipers on the PowerWagon today, and installed stainless brake lines too. Big difference in pedal feel. Took a whole quart and a half of Dot 4 brake fluid to bleed the front calipers.

The stainless brake lines are from KLM. At +3" over standard 2500.

https://www.klmperformance.com/dodge-ra ... lines.html

On the down side. I went to NAPA to get the rebuild kits. They said that they no longer sell caliper rebuild kits. Just the whole rebuilt caliper. So went to Advanced Auto. Got the kits off of them for $11.78 each. But can't get new pistons. So had to reuse the old Bakelite (plastic) pistons. Have a feeling that you won't be able to buy rebuild kits in the future.

I had bought the 14,000 lb pul-pal years ago. I had it in the front of bed. Between the tool box and front wall, standing on end. I haven't had the need to use it yet. I had to clean the bed out yesterday. Was hauling patio brick, sand and base. The bed was a mess. So I took it out to check it's condition. Surprised that it has no rust on it. The damn thing weights about a 100 lbs.

Their thought process was probably to get rid of moisture inside the tubes but i think welding them solid & just drilling some tiny weep hole would be better ?

That would be the proper way of doing it. The weep hole would have to be about 1/8" diameter. And it would get plugged with mud.

I have never understood the thought of leaving a tube open to ‘get rid of the moisture inside’. The moisture in the hot air as you’re welding a piece of metal is almost zero. Anything in there is going to oxidize with the surface and then be gone. It’s not going to rust itself from the inside out. On the other hand leaving ends of tubes like rock sliders open just allows them to fill up with mud and water. A small weep hole does more damage than good for drainage - the point of a weep hole is to release pressure during welding so you don’t blow a weld when sealing the unit up

It's a welding standard. It's covered in the AWS tech books.

I've seen what happened when there is no weep holes in a closed off pipe. During construction at the power plant. There was a dozen support pipe hangers that they forgot to drill the weep holes into the pipes. When the pipe supports got hot. It started to blow the welds apart. :jawdrop: Because of that. It shut down construction to inspect ALL pipe hanger supports.

Rock sliders and recovery gear don’t have steam piping attached to them. This stuff isn’t AWS for pressure application!

If you are welding to code or not. The same principles apply even if it's not steam piping. It's general practice. Having worked in a couple of fab shops, being a cert welder, boiler maker, welder/fitter, fabricator, blacksmith, and getting my welding engineering degree. I think I should know a thing or two. And forgot a bunch of stuff.

One of the features of the Power Wagon is sequential numbering.
How would a Power Wagon owner go about finding their number?
It was something Dodge did in '05. Some say thru '08. Leif would know the details of it.
