The Trans is a A727. The Cummins has a different bellhousing so you need another transmission. The Cummins and V10 shared the a
same one. This kept me from putting a V10 in my ramcharger. Couldn't find a diesel transmission on budget. Lol!!

That thing is awesome by the way! I had a 78 Macho wagon. I would leave that beautiful beast the way it is!

The rest of the drivetrain including the frame is not really up to the power the Cummins can make either. Those old unit hub 44s had problems with general usage, the added weight of a cummins would kill them in short order. Better off to find 3/4 ton regular cab with a diesel and dead body and just swap the body across, then all you really have to worry about is the wiring details.

Thanks guys the reason I was think a cummins swap is bec the engine and tranny should be rebuilt any ways and I love a good project I think it would make it a lot more valued and unique

Yeah, but like someone stated earlier, this truck (drivetrain mainly) simply isnt stout enough for a large cummins. By the time you replace everything else to go with the motor (trans, transfercase, front and rear axles, driveshafts etc.) you would probably be money ahead by starting with a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck in the first place. And what about the frame, is that even up to the task?

Would make a damn good project, though!

If this is what you want to start from...do it! You have a good idea of what it takes to make it happen, now put you skills to the test. It's possible, hell anything is...
