Sweet! I always like Black/Red or inverted Red/Black combos. Looking forward to seeing what the finished truck looks like. If I was to build a red PW like yours, that's the exact route I would go.

Well how are you liking the new gears? Any seat time with the new setup yet? Are the shift points all good?

I have a 1000 miles on my truck now ( ) and from what I can tell it seems geared way too high. Its always in the 1500 RPM range or less it seems, at about any speed. I just seems like the truck would like it better with 4.56's, or maybe even lower yet.

Hey, well, sadly no, not much more seat time other than the break-in from the shop in Columbus back to Dayton. I did drive it to work one day last week (25+miles ea way) and didn't notice any shift problems at all. Nothing I can notice anyway. We'll see if that changes, other than the speedo, when I have to replace the tires.

The shift points are comp controlled based on speed of vehicle. So when you adjust the speedometer it will correct the shift points. It's the same way the 68rfe is controlled. Parameters based on speed and throttle input. It's all automatic

I don't believe that is true. Shift points are computer controlled but they are not necessarily related to speed. The 66RFE and 68RFE are "learning" transmissions and adjust transmission behavior over time based on many environmental factors. Speed may be a factor but it is not the primary factor in gear selection. When I put 37's on my truck initially the transmission was sluggish, within 25 miles it was back to the way it was prior to the larger tires.

Installed the level kit, was a PIA. Didn't take any pics or post measurements yet. Now I'm waiting to get truck back from Don Boeke at his shop "the Egyptian" (nationally celebrated custom builder)-- having the bumpers/grill/fender flares Line-X & a few other tricks done. Should be done in a few days, been there 2 wks now.

Funny, but yeah a little. It's ok, 35's or 37's & new wheels are coming as soon as I can narrow down the choice ...

Before and After

Post by adeluca73 » Mon Jun 27, 2016 3:41 pm

Got the wagon back from having the bumpers and a little more done to remove the chrome and go for the blacked-out look. Intent was just to reduce regular maintenance in keeping the chrome looking respectable, and from there my list expanded:

-Splash graphics removed (I did that a month ago)
-Blacked out badges
-Line-x Front and rear bumpers, head light trim, grill, bug deflector, and fender flares
-Custom painted Ram emblems
-Powder coated tow hooks red
-Added Laramie style POWER WAGON in black to tailgate
-Custom painted center wheel caps

Oh and I measured the post level kit front-rear difference, and it's about 1/2" on the pax side, and about 1/4" on the drivers side, which from my before measurements works out to about exactly 1.5" gained. No alignment needed. Drives same, no noticeable difference to me, but since I just got it back, haven't wheeled it yet, but will try to get out and test it all out before I depart for DC in a month.

Still deciding if I want to remove the side PW decal--I'm leaning towards removing it...thoughts????

I'm a bit jealous, I have debated blacking out the chrome on my truck too but I have a lot more than you had. Since you're asking, I'm not a fan of the vinyl except for the center hood decal.

Your passenger side spring looks like a slinky. How have your tires worn? My factory alignment was off considerably to the point I could see strange wear patterns developing. The steering felt really tight and took some effort in hard fast turns.

If it was mine, I would lose all the graphics. I did the same with my SLT and added the laramie "power wagon" emblem to the tailgate and I like how it sets the truck off. Blacking out all the chrome emblems looks great!

Tint the front windows and slap some 37's under it.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

It's looking great adeluca. I enjoy how you plan your changes systematically. And execute them cleanly. I with the remove graphics. And time for man sized tires

Copy--I'm leaning removing too, I just waited till it's all done first because once they're gone, they're gone, but just wanted to see it all together first. I'll remove this weekend.

I'm starting to get "little tire" insecurity... Didn't realize everyone noticed :chug:

35's and new wheels are next (either the new hybrid Nittos, Toyo R/T's, KO2, or Hankooks)

Really, no issues, I actually measured tread depth from in-out on all 4 today, & has less than 5% variation. I have rotated them just about every oil change, & I know that goes a long way to prolonging even tread life. The spacer kit actually removed a good bit of the spring bow I had before, there's still some, but not nearly as much before.

Looks awesome! That front end looks very familiar.... lol. I'm with everyone else on the side graphics, take them off, would look better that way. Also black the rims and bigger tires! Would look badass then!

Looks great! I vote to remove the side decals as well... Quick question... Which LineX did you go with? It doesn't look as textured or shiny as some others that I have seen... Also, did you cut out the center caps of the wheels? Is that in preparation of a free spin kit? Now all you need is some 37's...
