07 PW restoration

Post by rws5040 » Sun Apr 13, 2014 6:44 pm

So thanks to some of the members here, I have been able to help a young friend (18 years old) restore an 07 PW to original using O.E. PW parts. I met Logan at a MudJam event in our hometown of Ft Pierce, FL. He came up to my camp and asked who had the PowerWagon; we all thought he hit it or something. He was really intimidated by all of us just staring at him and looking like WTF kid. But he started asking questions and I was happy to help. He had just purchased an 07 PW from TX and wanted to know a few things. So we hit it off pretty good. I walked to his camp and checked out the truck. I noticed it had no winch, no flares, the wheels were wrong; so I instantly looked for the (not so) smart bar and found it was installed. Oh and the lockers didn't work. So first thing we did was get flares off a member who was selling a set, installed them and did a locker hard wire. Good first step. Next was a winch bracket from a different member. The winch was proving hard to find, so the wheels were next. Not sure if they were from a member or not - he found them on instagram. Then came the ah-ha moment; I found a 07 PW winch and bracket in FL bout 3 hrs away for $500, except it needed a motor and it had no remote. Logan sold the spare bracket to a member for the same price he bought his for from another member. Logan wanted to get as much money for the part as he could; however, I explained to him the way things work on the forum - we all help each other out when we can. Selling the spare bracket paid for the new winch motor. Today we got it all installed. So invested to restore: $200 for flares, $700 for wheels, $80 for locker parts, $500 for winch and bracket (new motor as well). He is buying a set of center caps off a member as well $120,remote $80 and new hook $50. Total to restore: $1730. Teaching the next generation about trucks, off-roading and friendship: priceless.

You get one big Atta-boy for this! Pass it on to the next gen. Is he on here? That truck looks pretty clean. I know he will enjoy it.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.
