Alright, we got some work done yesterday. Below are pics with some explanation. Michael, the 4th Gen's are quite a bit different. As are the new 2014's. They finally did them right with a link/coil rear. Here goes the pics.....

What it looked like pre the build all stock except for a KORE leveling kit and 35" tires...
powerwagon1.JPG
After the Arma-Coating of the cab and snorkel install...
truck1.JPG
After install of the base lift components and put on the 40" Toyo's and Hutchinson Rock Monster's...
pwagon6.JPG
Base suspension components. Carli progressive rate coils, BDS long arms, custom front brackets, Deaver Race Pack rear springs custom built with +2000lbs. load to accommodate what will be the weight of the flatbed and it completely outfitted for extended expedition travel. That will include two spares, all tools, fluids, a full compliment of spare parts including front and rear driveshafts, ring and pinions, seals, spare arms, chainsaw, water, etc etc etc...
pwagon8.JPG
On the lift! Looks kind of funny with the 40's on the front and 35's in the rear...
Pwagon5.JPG
Base front end components installed. The tires appear to clear the upper arm. However, they do not clear the sway bar and it will either have to be modified or removed completely. Not sure just yet what will have to be done. In answer to a previous question of yours Crawler, the hydro-assist looks like it will have to be mounted in place of the factory stabilizer. There is a crossmember above the suspension on these 4th Gen's that will not allow it to be mounted above. That said, it is not the end of the world. The factory skid plate is pretty beefy and will do a good job protecting the hydro-assist unit. It's not the ideal place for it, but there doesn't appear to be another option. Also, the particular front bumper I'm having built for the truck will also help. It is a very tight fitting unit and is being built such that the new Warn 16.5ti winch is tucked farther back and "up" between the frame much farther than the factory 12,000lbs. It is also built such that the frame will need to be cut at a 45* angle to fit it. The approach angle will be greatly decreased
pwagon16.JPG
Having moved to the rear the factory AAM 10.5" axle was removed as was the factory springs. There is the AAM 10.5" rear on the floor. It has a Rock Crusher cover and the whole unit will be sold as will all the removed factory components including the bed, canopy, winch, etc....
PWagon4.jpg
pwagon14.JPG
"Built" AAM 11.5" rear installed with Deaver springs. It already has upgraded axles, seals, etc. Soon the ARB Differential will be installed along with the HD steel diff cover I found for it. The Nitro gear aluminum cover will be gone. With the Rock Crusher front diff cover and the rear there will be no need for any external differential protection...
pwagon11.JPG
pwagon12.JPG
That's it for now. Work will continue. Next is finishing the "cleanliness" of the suspension install, cleaning and beefing up all the electrical, brake, etc. lines. Then installation of the remaining suspension components, installing the driveline components like ring and pinions, ARB Differential in rear, free-spin kit, long travel airbags, upgraded axles in front, figuring out and install of the hydro-assist, fabrication of the sliders and skid plate system, fit and finish adjustments to pre-tune the suspension. Then we will take it out on the trail and put it through it's paces and to locate any needed fixes. All this will take two weeks I figure. After that I will drive it down to Oregon where me and my friend will build and install the flatbed. That will take one week. Then it will return to Spokane to finish the aluminum work on the steel frame flatbed, while we build the rear seat area storage/bed platform. After that I will do the install of all the electronics which include CB and HAM radios, Garmin street GPS, tablet navigation system, Garmin Montana 500 GPS, DeLorme InReach emergency communicator, two National Luna power Packs, two AIMS 3000W invereters, etc. The final thing to be done will be installing the 70-gallon auxiliary fuel cell, two spare tires, ARB 63qt Fridge, storage boxes, and all spare parts and recovery gear on/in the flat bed. Last will be the install of the RIPP Supercharger, headers, and stainless exhaust which will be dumped out just behind the cab in front of the rear axle. All catalytics will be removed. At that point we will do a three to four day "shake-down" trip with it in early June leaving enough time to repair/fix/adjust anything needed before leaving for the Ultimate Adventure! NOTE MY CONFIDENCE? LOL. I am also confident Gun will get in as well!!

Christ this took forever to do! I think I have carpel tunnel now!!

I also had an idea yesterday I am going to do eventually. If I can get it done before the Ultimate Adventure I will.

I am going to remove the side mirrors and replace them with small "protected" cameras wired to a screen on the dash. Then I am going to mount two cameras in the grill facing down wired to the same screen so I can see what I am driving over. One of the problems with the big trucks is you can't see what is right in front of you due to the big hood. I'm going to "fix" that problem and the problem of tearing off the side mirrors with this camera system. At least I hope it will work! LOL

I'll tell you what it is! IT'S FREAKIN' HUGE!!! I've never had such a big rig. It will be a new learning curve for me. Damn dog's! If I didn't have to take them hunting all the time I wouldn't need a full-size rig!

Holy smoke!! I just realized Im not building this Wagon for myself! Im building it for my dog's!! I hope they appreciate it! :D

I guess the pics below are the reason I'm building this thing...

Hey man install is dope, tons of $$$ invested in that beast, I see your from bc, where did you get the arma coat done was here or in arizona. I have 3rd gen needs body work and if i am going to keep the PW i want to fix the body and arma coat the shit out of it, paint just don't hold up neither does the shitty thin sheet metal on the exterior. Interested to see your flat bed, any who keep up the good work gonna be one of a kind!!!

I got the Arma-Coating done in Spokane. I'm sure you can find a bedlining outfit just about anywhere. I agree with you, thin sheet metal and paint just don't cut it! LOL

VERY impressive build!!!!! Yes the truck is big but reading through your lists you seem to have thought through just about everything to make the truck a fine example of what an expedition rig should be. Well done!!!

I don't have any children so my dog's are them. Yes, they are very well trained. I do guide work for fun with them. I usually take three with me, but now will only take two unless I am guiding at a preserve. I have lightweight insulated kennels for them to ride in. They are very comfortable. Like I said, the truck is being built for my dog's and their comfort. That said I did knock one out once bouncing them around in the kennel through a particularly gnarly river crossing with a rock crawl up the embankment on the other side. I like to get to places others can't for the solitude.

Quick update. The suspension is nearly done. Free spin kit is on etc. Basically all we have to do now is mount the hydro-assist and build a bash bar for it. Should be done next week.
pwagon4-25-1.JPG
pwagon4-25-4.JPG
Here is the completed rear AAM 11.5" rear axle. Notice the nice HD steel diff cover. As strong as a cast Rockcrusher. I am a bit hesitant to even show this as the decision was made today to cut 25-29" off the frame and 4-link the rear end. This will reduce the wheelbase from 149" to 120-125". The discrepancy in length is due to the fact cutting 25" will allow the tires to fit without cutting into the rear door and only into the cab body. If we can relatively easily cut into the door 4" or so with the cab then will cut 29" off. So, basically the rear end will not look at all like it does in the pictures. LOL
Also, the flatbed build will now be a seemless tube build bobbed in the rear so it won't be too much farther back than the tires. This should make a 56" flatbed length as opposed to the standard 84"

By the way, I have the factory AAM 10.5" rear end with a Rockcrusher diff cover available if anyone is interested. It has all the factory components in it. You can see a pic in a previous thread.

Also, we will be pulling off the bad and ARE canopy soon and they will be available as well.

Oh, and the front bumper, lights, and the factory 12,000lbs. winch will soon be off and available!

Just thought I'd let all know in case anyone needs anything. Otherwise I will just sell locally!

Looks good. Keep up the progress. I'm not in need of a new rear end, but I would be interested in the diff cover if you want to separate that. If not no biggie

I'd rather just sell the whole thing together but if no one buys it in the next month or two you can have the cover.

Yeah it all turned out awesome. I couldn't believe how "loose" it was from the factory. Now, with the upgrades everything is rock solid. I should have taken pics of the 5:13 gears after I installed them, but honestly they are just gears and all basically look the same. LOL

If you look you can see the hydro isn't done yet. That's next. I will take pics of the hydro-assist after we get it done. I really want to mount it to a bash bar welded to the axle housing, but it just doesn't look like I can with all the linkage. I think it going to have to just be mounted and protected as best as I can to the same place the factory stabilizer is. Ugghh!

I stopped work on the rear end as it is going to be linked now. So, no updates there. I am finishing up the front end and then will drive it as is for a week as we will be waiting for rear end parts now. Probably will do a trail run to find any problems. Hopefully none. After that the front end will be done and Phase 1 will be complete. We will start linking the rear after that. It will take some time for parts to get here.

I have decided NOT to cut into the cab for the tires. It just doesn't make sense to cut into it's structural integrity for 5" less wheelbase. So, the wheelbase will be about 130". Still a lot better than 150"!

Yeah, you gotta do it in the long run no matter what! Meaning after one decides to run tires bigger than 37"! Originally I thought about portals, but that opened up a whole other can of worms.

Damn right portals are sweet though. Can't get gears or good aftermarket shafts for a 10.5. We will see how long they hold up lol
