2011 Pics

Post by BANGG » Fri Mar 28, 2014 12:34 am

Okay, since you asked I will just start here. This is what it looks like as of two weeks ago. Front fenders, snorkel, and Arma-coating of the entire cab to start. The drivetrain is next and should take a few weeks assuming I'm not held up by parts. The front bumper is being removed and replaced with a different one. And the fenders should have waited until the drivetrain was done as I am now going to have to trim them as well! Oh well! Oh and no, the snorkel doesn't look like that any more. It has been lowered and rotated to follow the line of the windshield. I took that before I finished it because it looked so stupid that way!

Is that a universal snorkel kit or is it designed for the 4G?

It is the Airflow Universal 4". It worked just fine and is made of very good materials. Unfortunately I may have to remove or modify it again when the supercharger goes on. I'm not sure yet though.

Geez some boost too!?

Are those fiberglass fenders? The lines just look different to me and it may be the pic but it looks like the hood and fenders are a lighter shade than the cab... I do like the cab tho, hows the coating look? More smooth like paint rather than a gritty bed liner?

This build has me intrigued. We need more pictures to get a better feel for the truck. Also, are you going to coat the bed of the truck too, or is there something else planned for that?

I really didn't think anyone would be that interested in my PW build.

In answer to your questions the fenders are from Fiberwerx. I fitted them and then took them to a friend who Arma-Coated them inside and out. By doing the bedlining on both the inside and outside it actually makes them far more strong than just doing the outside. In fact, I would say they are actually stronger then the steel factory ones. I specifically will only use Arma-Coat as it is a better product then any of the others. They use a different adhesive in their formula which will not come off or peel. You would literally need a chisel and hammer to remove it. I also like the texture it produces better. It is not smooth at all. It is very much a "matte" texture which I like. Especially on the hood as I am going to be mounting a 50" radius light bar at the top of the windshield and the texture will not reflect light from the hood. Whether or not it looks good is a matter of opinion. I am very much a "function over form" person, so I really don't care what my rigs look like. My attitude also helps in laughing off body damage and carnage when it happens. LOL. I just call it character! :D

The color on the lining is the same. it may look different because of the lighting. Like I said I'm not much of a photographer.

I did not coat the bed as I am building a flatbed for the truck to replace it. I will be selling the bed and canopy.

By the way, if you are considering them I actually much prefer the Glassworks fenders and bedsides over the Fiberwerx as then do not have the "bubble" look. However, they didn't make them for the 4th Gen's when I needed them so I went with the Fiberwerx. Also, their bedsides do not have the Baja arch on them. They are flat on top so you can still mount a canopy or what not with them. But this is just my opinion.

LOL no that is the first thing people think. I live in the boonies. It's basically to prevent ingress. As in smash and grab jobs and to keep bears out of it. I am really not at all concerned about needing urban protection. But I do live in and camp in densely populated bear country.

I haven't done the PSC yet or the roll cage. That was a list of what I am going to do. At this point I just got it off the ground and started removing stuff. Unfortunately I am gone from it for a couple of weeks while away on business so I will not be able to take pics for a while. It will continue to be worked on while I am away though. I hate tax season! LOL

The lights bars are a good unit and about half the cost of Rigid's. They are made in China but every bit as good. If you are interested call Luke at Hazzard Fab Worx in Spokane. He is my source for them. 509-995-1176. Awesome guy!!

Apparently the remaining parts needed showed up today so the truck will be started on in haste now. I will do my best to take and attach photos as time goes on for you. The roll cage will be after the complete drivetrain and suspension is done so you will have to wait awhile on that. As far as the hydro-assist goes it should be done within the next few weeks so I can supply some pictures soon.

For my flatbed I will be using a 6"x3" box formed steel for the external frame with 2"x4" square tube steel for the inner parts. It makes for a super strong flatbed and the formed material allows the use of 2x4 tongue and groove for the deck which is very light and easy to attach stuff to it. The wheel wells and headache rack will be out of 2x2 steel. It's heavier than a simple tube bed but I try to accommodate for it with the suspension. I also carry a lot of tools, spare parts, fluids, gear, two full size spares, and three dogs in kennels with me so the truck already weighs too much anyway! LOL

Might I suggest if you decide to do a tube bumper pay the extra money and use seamless tube. it has twice the tensile strength with half the weight. You can usually source it from any well drilling supply etc. Damn, now your making me rethink my flatbed and making a crawly tube one instead. LOL

It's a bit early but here a few pics. All I did was get the base front stuff on and put the little 35's back on to get it out of the shop! LOL

A bad picture but here it is with the front about 4" taller. Hard to tell though. Total it is 6" without the 40's on it yet.

Love this build!!!!!! Keep up the great work... Depending on your wheeling style, I would have to say that those lower control arms are hanging loooowwwwww.... the brackets hanging low too. But,, as people always say, when you got shit that hangs low, you make up for the difference with bigger tires. 40's should work well on that rig. WHat is your final wheelbase on that thing?

The brackets do hang low but Luke built them for abuse so while they may hang low they can take it. The upper arms are solid steel and the lowers are 1/2" wall thickness so they are pretty damn strong. The wheelbase will be 149.5" as we moved the front axle forward 1". I already know I will be winching A LOT with this wheelbase which is the reason I am replacing the front factory 12,000lb. winch a Warn 16.5ti. Then the rear gets another Warn 16.5ti.

IF I CAN'T MAKE IT ACROSS SOMETHING UNDER TIRE POWER THEN I WILL JUST DRAG IT ACROSS! BWAHAHAHA!!!

Good Stuff... Great work on the custom brackets. 156" wheelbase HELL YEA>>>> lots of room in that truck.. Drag it across... I like it..

I am sure the 4th gen is different from the 3rd gen, We had to move the front axle forward on mine 2"s to make the 40's work with NO rubbing with a little circumsizing on the front lower metal with plenty of room to flex,,,,, it should be fine with a set of 42's with the right offset wheel.
