2011 RPW

Post by 2011RPW » Thu Oct 24, 2013 9:49 pm

Howdy folks, I'm a new member here. I thought I would take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Matt, 28 years old, from central Texas, and I work in pipeline construction.
I've been in the diesel world for the last several years, but finally tired of it, and traded my Dodge Dually in on a PW (Christmas Eve 2012). I can honestly say after having this PW, I don't regret my trade. I love this thing!
I just want to say thank you, in an advance, for the information I will get from this site. What little I've looked at so far has been extremely useful.

I've got some plans for this truck...we'll see how it goes.

welcome to the club, wish you luck on your build.

I noticed your front bumper did not have a place for your winch, are you planning on cutting a whole for the fairleads?

Welcome to the site. Good looking truck. It makes me want to stuff 35" tires under my truck, but I'm trying really hard to make myself keep the suspension stock.

Good eye! I just put this bumper on two weeks ago. The way the bumper brackets fit, I had to take the winch off, for the time being until I get home (I'm currently working 4.5 hrs from home) and can do some fab work with the brackets. But yes, the winch will be going back on and I will cut a hole out and I've already got new a roller fairlead and a license plate bracket that clips onto the fairlead. By the way, taking the winch off is a two-man operation. I tried doing it by myself and almost lost some back muscles. Safety first!

No stuffing required. My suspension is completely stock at this time, athough some Carli components are on the list for future mods. Only problem I have is rubbing on the control arms at full lock.

I know what you mean by a two man job. I found a way around it by using my floor jack as the second hand to help remove the winch. if you were closer to me I would mount that winch for yea no issues.

Are you near Fort Worth? My son lives just outside the city.

I live about an hour west of Austin. However, I'm currently working just east of Houston. When I go home for Thanksgiving, I should have plenty of time to get the winch/bumper issues worked out. Hopefully, I'll be putting some Carli springs on then too.

Before buying Carli, you should check out what Brian has available in his stock of accessories. I would not go with anyone but Thuren. Those are good people and he will make sure you get what you are looking for vise just selling you parts that you want. It took me about a month of talking to him and telling him what I wanted at the end of the day and he gave a list of parts that would give me what I was wanting. Some of the parts where not Thuren so he is not set on just selling his own stuff.

Good luck with your upgrades

I will do that. After being on CumminsForum for so long, I swayed towards Carli with all of their reviews. I've looked at Thuren's website, and I like what I see. I've got a few more paychecks to save up, and I'll give them a call and go from there.

Thurens website is sooooo old and out of date. You need to call him to see what he has developed and what he recommends for your truck. Just as an example his alien arms are no where to be found on his site but they are amazing and can be used on a 3" or a 6" lift while clearing 37" tires with zero rubbing issues. They won't work well for the rocks but they do give a buttery smooth ride in the roughest situations.

Many of us have given him feedback to allow him to better serve the PW community. Just be honest with what you want and how you use your truck. IE: Don't tell him you just want to level it out and get a better ride when you really know you will mostly go slow and flex over the rocks in Moab, or you in reality know you will mostly blast down fire roads in the Reno area. There really is no Swiss army knife of suspension. You have to do things that fit what your needs are when it comes to arms, springs, shocks and shock valving choices etc. This is going to take some planning and honest personal assessment to get it right for your needs.

Even his 2.0 kit does extremely well on the back roads.

As you can see we have many options out there to choose from and not all are well known. So do it right the first time and save some money in the long run! :cash:

Installed Thuren 3" coils, Overland shocks, and Pure Performance extended control arms. Just waiting on the Thuren Shackles. Very impressed with ride quality. It's firm, but no longer have the stiff jabs I got with the stock suspension.

Well here's where I'm at...

Thuren 3" coils. (Waiting on rear shackles)
Overland Shocks
Debadged, added lime green pinstripe
20" wheels (being replaced with 17" Methods very soon)
35" tires
Black headlights
Custom grill
Replacement bumpers (front & rear)
Light bar, various lights
Nfab steps

I got tired of answering "what makes a power wagon so bad ass?" So, I deleted all the stickers, etc. Now I just answer the question, "how'd you not get stuck?"

It had a Frontier rear bumper on when I bought it. I bought the javelina front bumper to match.
