4" Zone Lift on a 2012, almost perfect!

Post by 12PWRWGN » Mon Sep 02, 2013 12:09 pm

Hey all, thought I'd share my improvements with you. I put on a 4" Zone Lift kit (6" Ram 2500/3500 Hemi lift) roughly $1100 (less the $300 gift certificate i won at a jeep show). Had to buy the PW sway bar links for extra (30-45 bucks). The lift kit fits 37x12.50 17's perfectly (found some lightly used BFG Mud Terrains old skool tread off a show bronco). I ended up putting 1.5" wheel spacers to retain the stock PW wheels. Looks like the truck could have come off the lot like it is. Anyway, I took it to a park in Iowa called MIOBI (make it or break it, Miobi.org ), and these are pretty much jeep wrangler trails. It was really tight and super steep, had it flexed out and constantly steering the whole time lock to lock, long story short, only once did i hear the lugs grab the inner fender, and there was no damage to them either. Lockers worked perfectly and engaged right away when needed. (only bad part was ended up with a few pin stripes to buff out of the clear coat). The upper control arm bracket that attaches to the axle on the left side barely hits the coil/shock tower mount where it comes away from the frame in the rear (right at the exact same time the coil spring is compressed enough to lift the tire, and the bolt head has made a small gouge in the metal in the flat part of the shock tower mount where its flat against the frame. If the track bar was 1/4" shorter that would solve that, right side has plenty of room and the axle doesn't really seem off center. For the 1.5" spacers i had to grind off about 1/8" of the lug studs, which wasn't even to the threads, so there was no thread issues (but the 12 PW's have metric lug nuts, so I spent about $150 getting the right lug nuts for the wheels). All in all I only spent $1000 on the whole lift with the gift certificate and after I sold my stock BFG's and the rims that came with the Mud terrains.

Some old skool KM's (yes, I meant to misspell School) I wish they still made that tread design....

12PWRWGN, your truck looks awesome!!!! I really wish BFG still made that pattern tire, I would have gotten them for mine! I've had them on two of my vehicles in the past and they worked fantastically! They look great too!!! Nice find!

Trimaran adjustable hitch. I picked mine up from Amazon for about $100.

I don't have ant pictures of the outing last weekend, was too busy watching out for branches and trying to keep up with rock crawler Jeeps (not fair they could care less about paint). I have a couple club g2g's coming up this month and I'll take some pics of suspension clearances for you all with it flexed out. I bought the hitch on Amazon too, sweet hitch rated for 10k and I like the sealed (or covered) lock mechanisms and keyed alike locking hitch pin.

The look and stance of that truck looks AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

I really like the original BFG M/T KM tires, too. I've got them on my Jeep and they work great. One thing I don't like is FREAKIN' LOUD THEY ARE ON THE HIGHWAY!! I can't hear a damn thing for about 10 minutes after I park....
