Updated the planned and completed .

Thuren PW bumper is ordered.
i will get a black Warn Fairlead and Yellow Baja pods for the Winglet Fog holes, and two baja spot pods next to winch, powered by a switch.
i would like the yellow fogs on with lowbeams with oem switch and spots activated with highs
When you pull off your bumper save the fog light harness. You can run 40A cubes safely on the wiring.

PWJouster's Build - 2018 Power Wagon "TrailWhale"

Post by Rodeoflyer » Tue Nov 06, 2018 10:10 am

I’m running four of these in the fog locations.

RIGID INDUSTRIES D2 HIGH & LOW LED LIGHTS - 50231H

On low setting I’ve never had anyone complain or high beam me on road.

The bar is a diode dynamics ss18 18’’ combo bar on the bumper for spot

I don't get the whole ADAPT thing.. however if you want to have that kind of control...degrees of light are degrees of light and lumens dependent mainly on reflector and LED type. You want a flood/spot/superspot (for 100mph driving offroad :D ).

The D2's provide massive flood and driving. Another small 12''-18'' spot/superspot will provide range.

I don't think diffused is necessary in a front facing light, maybe for rears. I'd only go with the ADAPT single if that was my ONLY front facing lightbar.

neither did i until i saw them in action just the other day.

they are sick, and i plan on using the Amber color as a daytime running light.

either i need a specific split of flood vs spot lights, or i can rely on the adapt for spot lighting and flooding.
i probably wont go for it, but its a cool product.

you did edit this post retroactively no? lol

exactly.

my thought was
yellow fog lights as daytime markers,
spot beam pods to assist high beam at night on road,
and a 20 inch bar in the new powerwagon grill mustache with driving/spot combo.
ill pull out the lower plastic grill applique and recess a 20 inch bar in the grill, mounted on the thuren bumper

PWJouster's Build - 2018 Power Wagon

Post by Rodeoflyer » Tue Nov 06, 2018 12:03 pm

I have amber covers on two of my D2's. I guess it depends on conditions but that's all the amber I'd need. IO have separate lo/high switches for both sets of D2's and another set of switches for the main LED bar. Yeah, I'm at work so I'm editing and working lol. I think I've done exactly what you're thinking about.

I’m almost exclusively a user of baja designs, with the one exception being the rigid sae compliant fogs. They work really well for on road, never had any problems irritating other drivers with them. Excellent beam cutoff and spread.

They aren’t nearly enough for offroad, but sounds like you got that covered with the other stuff!

Can’t wait to see it all mounted up sir, it’s going to be a lot of light

FINALLY!!
evo sway disconnect is insane...and to be honest, i now know i will rarely have my swaybar connected. disconnected with this thuren suspension is ideal.

ARB and 2.5 gallon mounted with the compressor and air chuck access in Ram box... this is great

Kill switch and Locker bypasses installed and work. not tested offroad yet.

thuren bumper is a beast and the lights were mounted perfectly.

i gave Brandons truck and auto the placement and build direction guidance and they made some of their own calls.

the rambox unit comes out all together, and a bracket plate gets placed on the opposite site of the plastic box, bolt through and as solid as it needs to be. the quick connect coupler has a big washer on the opposite side, and again, this plastic is actually very stiff and sturdy.

arb twin routed to 2.5 gallon tank where the spare used to be, and its routed back to the coupler for access in the rambox, which i will fill with all the air tools and whips.

It's tempting, very tempting. But just not enough to get me to accept new truck prices. I really wanted those improvements in the back seat area. We'll see what 22 brings.

the 6.4 is the end all option for our powerwagons... until they start boosting small v8s

that 8 speed should be stout, clean shifting, and MPG boosting, but the low end gearing i guaranty they get wrong for the sake of reliability.

EVO ON DEMAND AIR SWAYBAR DISCONNECT.

WOW

Findings were relatively expected

I have never actually removed links to test no stock swaybar at full speeds. If i had, i may have removed the swaybar all together as long as i wasnt towing. the Thuren suspension is absolutely ideal! As it relates to body control and comfort, to be honest, NO swaybar makes thuren tuned kings shine brightest.

The truck is a dream with the swaybar discod, flying down the highway or gravel roads. body control is epic and at no time does the body sway become intrusive. Couple that with an ABS kill switch and 2HI rear locker, and its the truck youve always dreamed of owning.

^that is for the person who drives moderately on road and doesnt pretend to have a trophy truck or sports car

TRUTH
i need a swaybar.

there are times when i do drive entirely way to aggressive on road, testing the limits of the 35 Toyos and thuren tuned suspension. Stock swaybar and no swaybar on entrance/exit ramps, taking any long sweeping turn, 90°turns or any kind of change of direction, is a huge difference at speed.

Ill probably hit the Spod switch every time in jump in the truck, as it maximized comfort for the daily.
When i know ill be racing or actin a fool on road surface, ill keep swaybar engaged for maximum control and stability.

One of the best things I ever did was ditch the stock swaybar in favor of a torsion bar. Biggest single improvement to my truck. At least on my gen power wagon, torsion bar was way better than no bar or running disconnected, and no bar was way better than stock.

The tuned suspension works wonders in body control, but when you add the torsion bar in it really does enhance traction and control.

I have my rear bypasses set very soft for the first half of travel and in combination with the torsion bar up front it allows the body to rock back on the rear suspension under acceleration to maximize hookup traction and also lets the body lean controllably around a fast corner to weight the outside tire and give maximum bite in a turn. It takes a little getting used to but it works fantastically

That evo disconnect is super slick though.

i assume over uneven, ungraded, or off camber highway runs , which is everywhere in south florida as everything is under construction, and i daily this at over 16k miles a year, that no swaybar can provide maximum Comfort on long stretches of road. and it surely does. it numbs out almost all the road imperfections when discoed, caddi esq

SPOD

great product and does exactly what its designed to do.
easy install and easy maintenance.

Bantam is small!!!! and very high quality
HD touchscreen is ideal! and such a small footprint for 4 switches.

@trailwhalePowerwagon on instagram for some photos.

one huge gripe.
the switch panel has full power at all times with the standard setup.
i am way to forgetful. already got a call last night for my fog lights being left on, and more discreetly swaybar still discoed(unsure of the power draw with the arb solenoid left open?)

only switches 1 and 2 can be activated by keyed ignition source, luckily, i only ever plan to have amber fogs and swaybar discoed on the regular.
but if i leave any other switch on, down goes the battery.

anyone have any simple and reliable alternatives to power the entire spod block only when keyed ignition is on?

Everything you said is true, the factory sway bar is over sprung. However, there are some serious problems running no front sway bar or a reduce rate bar with loads high up on the truck. Be aware you can get uncontrollable sway that is not seen in leaf sprung trucks due to the narrow width of the rear coil springs.
