MOAB 2018 - It was awesome!

ATTENTION: POWER WAGONS IN MOAB IS CANCELLED.

I have bad news. It’s with a heavy heart that we are announcing the official cancellation of Power Wagons in Moab 2018. The BLM has decided that we cannot operate without permits, insurance and paying a per-user fee for each individual every day on the trails. Needless to say, the cost quickly skyrocketed to over $4,000.

We’re not a for-profit anything. We were solely doing this to organize a gathering of like-minded Power Wagon enthusiasts to enjoy the beauty and challenges that Moab offers. We foolishly, perhaps naively, didn't know we needed permits. We believed OUR PUBLIC LANDS were public to use.

The Recovery Course is still on as an all-day event. It is being held on private property and not subject to fees. You’re welcome to attend the morning session as planned and then go wheel, or you can stay for the full day. Nena’s courses usually run $800-$1000, so this is a steal at $12 per person + $5 truck fee to attend. Plus Nena is bringing some fantastic stuff to give away.

If you paid for the recovery course already, and have decided not to attend and would like a refund, please contact us.

Several folks have commented that they’ve already taken vacation time, and they still intend to head to Moab. Groups that randomly meet up in the mornings for an unplanned run, usually around 7-10 rigs, are not subject to any fees. There are no organized or planned trails, but I’m sure the folks who are in Moab would love to meet up for an impromptu trail run anytime.

If you’re still planning to head to Moab and are unsure where to camp, you are more than welcome to contact us for some tips. There’s an area South of Moab that’s a favorite of several folks who are still making their way to Moab for their vacation.

Apparel is still available as orders have already been placed. If you decide you want a refund, you have until April 1st. Otherwise, you can plan to pick them up from us in Moab.

If you have ANY questions, please take a moment to EMAIL us.

We're deeply saddened and sorry for this turn of events. But it is beyond our control.

Never had pleasant Labor Day out there, that being said I don't stay in motels, I camp. Not sure when my truck will be here, but I would go in October some time. Wanted to do hole n the rock if my trail rig is ready. But if I have the PW could play around Moab. An easy trail like Poison and Spike would be fun. Curious to see what it will do in the crack..Do you unlock the sway bar for that? :D

It was pretty ok for us this Labor Day weekend. The crack is boring. Nice spot to have lunch though.

Maybe you should start with Kane Creek or go run all of Pickle & Mashed Potatoes. I was playing on that this past Labor Day weekend.
FordyceCreekTrail wrote:Hi everyone. Hope this is the right place, did not see any more active Power Wagon Forums out there. Nothing active like the Raptor Forums anyways. Anyhow my 2005 Titan is getting a bit long in the tooth. Its been a good truck but look what has come out since! Anyhow, been planning on a 2017 Raptor for a couple of years. However, the New Power Wagon really grabbed my eyes at the auto show, probably by changing the ugly as sin Chrome grill and adding more classic graphics. Certainly we are talking two quite different vehicles, one designed to go very fast off-road, and one designed to go on the trail more where it can fit. IE: Slow. As much fun as a Raptor would be, it is quite possible for work and play the Power Wagon would be better. I guess my biggest concerns are reliability and gas mileage. Certainly the new Raptor has some real untested components and has risk as well. I dont buy a new truck but every 12yrs or so, so it needs to be the right choice.

So you did end up buying a Power Wagon?

Once again, that's a snowmobiling weekend for me. Image

It's been at least 4 months since i've logged into facebook... too much noise, not enough signal.

I will add I don't use FB either. Use it more for work reasons, although it is of little benefit. Forums are less complex and less cluttered for planning and discussing big things. FB is for cat videos and what the kids ate for lunch.

Whatever your opinions are on FB, that is where the larger group is. However, I will keep this thread up to date.

Anyone who is on FB and wants to connect can join the discussion https://www.facebook.com/groups/offroadpowerwagon/ <-- ask for an invite and mention the registrary, we keep this group filtered of morons. :thppt:

---

We are starting the planning, and will have the trails & days list up by Jan 2nd and will start the pre-registration so we know who is coming, and what to plan for. With full final itinerary and t-shirt sign up posted on March 1st.

I'm really hoping to join this year. I think I've said that for the past few years. Anywho, since adding all of my Thuren goodies I have yet to wheel with it. I know sliders are highly recommended, but I also need ball joints. Around town I'm fine, but I think traveling cross country I will need the ball joints. I digress, I will probably do those since I'm going to buy good ones and can't pony up the cash for white knuckle as well.
Either way, I really want to join. It will also be me and my wife's 10 yr anniversary and she said we could include this in our "out west" trip. So... hopefully we can make it.

I'm trying to avoid us needing things like group insurance and registering with Moab as an actual event for as long as I'm volunteering and we're not huge. :poke:

There are things they could do and support with out taking it to that level. Maybe some raffle prizes or a ride along with an engineer or marketing dude. Had some fun with that with Mitsubishi and Nissan both. Despite the delicate nature of Xterras those engineers were crazy drivers...

Do you mean 2015? I was there for 2016, and it was like 4 of us.

If you connect with us on FB "Offroad Power Wagon" you'd have your answer. Jeff says he's making it.
