Err, about the logo. I'm not dropping 1000. Sorry. I kind of expected it, since he's a pro. Oh well.
Well, poor guess on my part...

This will be my first time to Moab. Super excited! :-)

I'm planning on doing the trip 'overland' style with my roof top tent. I'm just curious if someone can tell me whether there are places (and if it is allowed) that I can just sorta get off a trail and set myself up for the night? Or will I need to plan on being in an organized campground?

Thanks in advance!

I would also like to know that. There is atleast 3 of us coming from Alberta with our roof top tents. And we plan on camping the whole time.

Thanks to hoons at Easter Jeep Safari, almost all the BLM camping in the area of Moab has been restricted to developed BLM campgrounds. And boondocking close to Moab itself is practically gone.

However, there are two places that you can go, you'll be about 20 mins from town however. So you'll need extra time in the mornings to get to rally point.

https://www.campendium.com/willow-springs-trail
Willow Springs Trail
Moab, UT 84532
435-259-2100
Official Website
GPS: 38.6967, -109.6751

It's straight up Boondocking. I camped there for 3 weeks with my Airstream. It's a crowded/popular area with ATVers and MTBers however. It's also back access to the MTB trails for Arches, so it sees a lot of traffic during the day. But there is a lot of space to spread out. Since you have RTT's you shouldn't have a problem.

There is another spot, up the road from Willow Springs:

https://www.campendium.com/dalton-well-road

Dalton Well Rd.
Moab, UT 84532
Official Website
GPS: 38.7304, -109.7242

------

There is one other place, close to all of us at Ken's Lake you can camp too. Kind of... It's the old Airport. It's state property. And is open. I've used it to change my oil. LOL. And I've seen people camping in there. There is a gate, that you just open and close.

https://www.google.com/maps/@38.4876073 ... a=!3m1!1e3
4890 La Sal Mountain Loop Rd
Moab, UT 84532
38.487859, -109.452134

For those of you with RTT's if you come in late and leave early, you should be able to camp there without being bothered. I've never been able to get a straight answer online about the legitimacy of camping there. But I have seen people there multiple times. Last time we were in Moab, there were two big RV's and a 5th wheel in there for 2 weeks. So.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Info is there for you.

:cheers:

The BLM Rangers are ON IT out there around Moab. Assume that if you camp in the ring spot, they will find you. Too many Jeepers ruined it.

Yea, I talked to a ranger last year about it. You can see a lot of spots that look like camp spots, some with old fire rings, but they put up all these brand new No Camping signs in front of all of them. He told me they used to allow it, but there became a problem with litter, and damage to the land from people camping in places that weren't previously established.

I spent 2 1/2 yrs traveling. And most of all our camping is boondocking on BLM land. I'm amazed at how shitty people treat our public lands. You wouldn't shit on your neighbors yard, so I don't understand how people go camping and just dump trash everywhere. But they do, in mass.

Thanks for the boondocking info guys - I really appreciate it! I would have just assumed you could camp pretty much anywhere.

I hate doing the RTT thing in campgrounds because several times I've packed up for the day only to come back and find someone else in my spot in spite of having my tag on the post showing the site was paid for.

I'm self contained so I'd rather just find a piece of ground.

Hey, I'm really interested in getting a RTT after Moab. If any of you guys wouldn't mind me coming over after some wheeling and checking out your setup, I'd appreciate the tour. Really curious to hear some real world feedback and sell the wife on it.

:cheers:

Quick reminder, I'll send out the contact sheet and comms and additional info probably April 1, that will give people plenty of time to make any corrections, etc before May.

I have contact info for most everyone who is confirmed except for a few, if you have not sent us contact info, please do so with the link in the OP, or just PM me. That way you'll be included in any emails that go out including the contact sheet, comms, further camping info, rally points, trails, etc.

Still looking for contact info from:
@Jeepnjonny
@reivaxram97
@Mr Crit
@Jeff50316
@Pit Slave

Looks like we currently have 20 trucks confirmed, please let us know if you plan on joining and haven't confirmed yet, or if you have a change of plans and can't make it.

Thanks! See you guys in 42 days!

I'm getting stickers made up (which I plan to give free for attendees!) but I need to know two things-
how many total rigs?
and
who do I need to contact for permission to be allowed to use the forum name in the stickers?

No, he's not.
ldgregory wrote: Probably won't make Moab this year either, my wife decided we're going to spend three weeks in Bali this summer and it's going to suck down every bit of leave I'll have by then.
And on that note, I think you can just use the site name.

I see Lee's name on the confirmed list. Unless he's just there in spirit? Wait then who is going to break wheels in pairs...

We're going to look good when we start giving them all our spare parts, and then the tools to break their rust bolts free to swap them
