Re: MOAB 2017
Hola from southern AZ! I just picked up a new 2016 Laramie PW! Nicest truck I have ever owned. I can't wait to get out on the trail and out of the mall parking lot. I would love to come meet other Wagoneers and learn how to use these rigs. I'm admittedly a very rookie off-roader on 4 large wheels.

Yo yo yo!!! Finally logged back in. Getting stoked for this trip. We're in. Hoping for the full week. If anyone needs any info I'm pretty familiar with Moab. Probably going To try and put my camper next to Mikes if he's cool with that.

I'm in Tucson. Would love to find some fun near by trails to try. Looking for some nice wide open stuff at first. I'm still in the new truck phase and afraid to scratch it. Re: MOAB 2017 - May 1-7
PLEASE GO BACK AND CHECK THE FIRST POST.
I just updated the thread with all the details you need to know to prepare and make a reservation or figure out where you are going to stay. If you are coming FOR SURE, please reply here with your confirmation. And if you want PM me your email and phone #. I want to be able to send out details for the rally point when it's time for the event, so no one is in town trying to find the rest of the group.

Re: MOAB 2017 - May 1-7
I don't know yet if I can but, I really want to do this!!!! It's 30 hours each way driving for me. If I can do it, I'll likely have this itinerary:
April 28, 29, 30: 10 hours driving each day
May 1,2,3,4: trail days!!!
May 5,6,7: 10 hours driving each day
That way, I only have to take a week off work. (I work Mo-Th)
I know I am going to sound like a wimp but, I'm honestly a bit nervous about that much driving. Longest solo drive I have done is 17 hours as a straight shot. Most solo driving I've done in a short duration of days is 21 hours in 3 days (10.5 on a friday, saturday relaxing at destination, 10.5 on a sunday), most driving in one period was 22 hours straight. (was with other people but I was the only one willing to drive, never again will I do that, was horrible!!!) So, 3 ten hour days back to back is honestly sounding pretty daunting! (also, will be some long days since I have circulation issues in my legs now so, I will have to plan time to stop and walk around, a concern I never had on previous trips) I am going to be putting some serious thought into this though, definitely the trip of a lifetime!!!!! Looks like about $1000 or so in fuel to get out and back. (approx. 4000 miles round trip, about 11 mpg, figure about $2.75 a gallon average for mid grade in May) Of course, I'll use some fuel (a LOT of fuel, LOL!) on the trails but, no real way to calculate that usage. In spirit, I am 100% going!!!! In actuality, I am working on trying to make it happen!

Re: MOAB 2017 - May 1-7
I know it doesn't feel the same, but you could always fly out and hop in co-pilot with somebody. It's a lot cheaper and you won't be adding any trail-damage to your own rig of course that last part wasn't for you Morgan because I think you have more trail damage than the rest of us combined! That is a really long drive. We are lucky we will already be in the area and have no itinerary, couldn't get any better than that.

Re: MOAB 2017 - May 1-7
Once you start climbing altitude, your MPG's will go up as well. So with that said, plan your gas stops at the lower priced stations. This is what I always do. It does take a little time to do, however, I have done it round trip for less than $700 with 4300 miles of travelling. Gas is cheaper in the Midwest. Use the gasbuddy (dot) com map, zoom in and the current price will show for the areas you look at. I can help map out stops if needed.
Most importantly, just do it! You will never be disappointed in your decision to go! From the first time I drove into town from New Jersey years ago, Moab made such an impact on me that I made up my mind. It no longer became a question of "if" it became a question of "when". For me that "when" happened a few weeks ago, and I'm absolutely happy about it! I'm now living in Utah, and that is how strong it impacted me.

I guess you could say I'm a bit off center.....

Re: MOAB 2017 - May 1-7
I just put 4,100 miles round trip on my PW over Christmas and New Years. Going from south of Pittsburgh, to the Denver area, down to Bloomfield NM. Side stop at Wichita Ks. to home. Spent a little over $800.00 on fuel. So this should give you an idea on fuel. Fuel prices ranged from $1.95 to $2.59 for 89 oct.
When the fuel gauge hit 1/2 tank. I started looking for fuel. Which was about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs driving time. This gave me a chance to get out and walk around, and gave the wife a pit stop too. I'm still on meds for a blood clot in my leg from last year. So I have to be careful.

Re: MOAB 2017 - May 1-7
Round trip for me last year was 4600 miles.
I averaged just under 12mpgs with cruise set at 75.
Cost of gas was $1100,but I only run 91 or 93 octane in mine.
Once there,I burned $25-$40 per day.

I'm still on snow in early May...
Drove past Moab heading out to Cali last week. Had the wrong toy in the truck bed though.

Hawaii is lame. Just a small dumb boring Island. For real. Don't waste your money on the lie the tourism industry sold you. Come to Moab. It will be better. Trust me.stubiePW wrote:I want to go, I really want to, but I'm planning a trip to Hawaii with the wife in November, so my money may be going there...

That gives you 6 months after Moab to cobble together either the rest of the funds for a Hawaii trip or a good excuse for the wifey.stubiePW wrote:I want to go, I really want to, but I'm planning a trip to Hawaii with the wife in November, so my money may be going there...

(wife will likely either have to work or will boycott the trip since she is not into wheeling so, I'll likely be solo)
