Most places in the GWNF are just dirt roads. I think there is one area down off of RT 33, outside of Harrisonburg, VA that may be a good spot. I'll do some checking and see if it's still an open area.

I remember hitting some areas that were pretty good out there when I went with Beltway Jeepers years ago....I'll have to check with my Jeep buddies to see if they are still open for wheeling. Well....I would be interested in wheeling down in the Uwarrie....maybe sometime in the future. This thread sort of started out as one aimed for a trip in Virginia, 'though. One to NC will take extra planning for me. The local stuff here in VA is an easier thing to get going....for obvious reasons. Definitely would like to go down to do an NC trip later on.

Yeah. The trip would probably be later in the summer. Gotta fix some things on my truck first and save up more money for the trip. It's really good wheeling and is similar to Rausch. Chris you should come down when your truck gets all fixed

Anybody want to try and do a weekend trip to GWNF in maybe mid-to-late August? Maybe do the Flagpole run & camp right there? I've got to get in touch with some Jeep dudes I know to get some trailhead grids, and maybe a topo for the open trails there. I do remember a few off camber spots and a couple decent climbs.

I'm kind of itchin' to get back out in the hills again. Have to get my grille guard modified soon, I bought all of the steel I need and a MIG welder....but I need to finish teaching myself some proper welding techniques first before I try doing it on round tubing! The truck's going in for the new custom sliders and rear diff skid on Monday....I'm stoked for that!

There are some rocky sections on a couple of the climbs, and also a few boulders / chunks of talus along some of the trails to play on....but nothing like up at Rausch Creek or out in the western US. Plenty of mud, loose stuff, some off camber, a couple stream crossings.
