on board air

Post by verdesardog » Sun Feb 17, 2013 12:32 pm

I just ordered this from amazon for about $420.

VIAIR 200 PSI Ultra Duty Onboard Air System

I need it for the engine brake I 'm gong to install for my diesel. So now I will also have air for airing up tires and the rear airbags, I guess I have to get an air horn next LOL

I think I'll keep the Q50 just because it's still new in the box. Used only once to air up after an off road trip.

Looks like a nice kit. Would love to see pics of the install. I am planning on doing something similar.

ok, now where's a good place to mount the compressor and air tank? I have no room in front of my radiator like you PW owners....

Myoung84 built some brackets to mount everything up on the passenger side frame rail. Here is the thread over on dt:

thanks for the link but I think there must be a way to do it without drilling into the frame. It's been too wintery here to even look under the truck...

OK, so I made a stainless steel splash gaurd for the compressor and brackets to hang from the frame rails. Under the drivers side, not plumbed or wired yet .....

I have a different drain valve on the way but will probably make a skid plate to protect it:

The compressor doesn't hang as low as it looks in the previous pics but if I was going to rock crawl I would have put everything in the tool box in the front of the bed.

Looks pretty good! Wish I had the funds to do some more mods like this.

Same kit I have. No problems at all so far. I like where you mounted the tank. I went the easy route and put it in my truck bed under the truck box.
Enjoy this life, cause it's all we're getting.
