ARB OFF ROAD LIGHTS
ARB OFF ROAD LIGHTS
I saw these lights and thought they looked Quality and Cool. And for you guys that like to play submarine, there water proof to 9 feet... Then I saw the price...$736 ea. I can't see how they'll sell many at that price. I might pay $200 for one but not more. http://arbusa.com/Uploads/PDF/newProduc ... _light.pdf

Those are awesome. Look very well built. I agree on pricing but that is what happens when you are the only company in town making them. They need to make up the R&D somehow.
Truthfully if I had silly amounts of money I would buy them just to have them. Give it a year and they will be down to $400 and 3 or 4 companies will make them.

Must be made by one of these companies to ARB's design specs. Nice lights. In the video, they look so bright that it may cause "reflective back-at you" issues.

Re: ARB OFF ROAD LIGHTS
I converted some KC long rage daylighter knockoffs to HID, lots of light but more of a spot vs driving beam.
Looking to upgrade to Hella rally 4000 compact, should fit behind the grill nicely and have a better "driving" beam...and convert them to 55w HIDS lol
I really want some Vision X transporters....but damn they are not cheap!

The Overland Journal tested several of the new LED lights. The ARB rated well, but output was less than a thrid of the claimed number.Ducky's Dad wrote:8200 lumens at about 7 amps. Not bad.

Re: ARB OFF ROAD LIGHTS
IF I have time tonight, I'll post the info from the article. They broke them into to groups - the Rigid Dually size, and the ARB/KC size.

Re: ARB OFF ROAD LIGHTS
Baja Designs Squadron was the Editor's Choice. Measured output was 1097 lumens at 42 watts in a very compact 3 x 3" light.
In the compact format lights, the Vision X Optimus won the Value Award.
In the large round format, the PIAA LP570 LED was the Value Award selection.
In addition to those three, the lights tested were: KC LZR 4" round, Rigid Dually D2, KC 6" round, Hella Rallye 4000 LED, ARB Intensity, Truck-Lite #81711.
As far as the ARB light, the claimed lumens is 8200, as tested, it output 2025. That was pretty much the same for all the lights tested - the claimed output was much higher than the actual measure output. The ARB was by far the worst in this test tho. That said, it was the highest output of all the lights tested. It also failed the water testing - that's not a good thing...
As I had mentioned in another post about LED lights, the article does a great job explaining how important a good reflector is. The PIAA acheives 625 lumens output with only 2 LED's in a large reflector, and draws 18 watts. The ARB uses 32 LED's in individual refectors to make 2025 lumens, but draws 90 watts - much, much less efficient, and at 6.8lbs is over 4 lbs heavier than the PIAA.

Re: ARB OFF ROAD LIGHTS
Thanks for the info. Looks like I need to order that issue. I like OJ, but a subscription is not worth it to me because there is too much material that is totally irrelevant to me. I like their annual gear review issue, and every once in a while they print some compelling articles.
