The Best Flashlight I've Ever Owned!!!

Post by Retired BLM Rig » Sun Jan 29, 2017 2:35 am

I've had this flashlight for a couple years now and I use it everyday.
It's a Coast A22R rechargable LED flashlight. It's the same diameter as a Mini Maglite, but shorter and brighter (340 lumens), in a durable stainless steel housing. It uses the latest technology lithium polymer battery. On the high setting the battery lasts for over 3 hours. It comes with two rechargeable batteries and if they both go dead before you have a chance to recharge, you can just put in one AA alkaline battery and keep going. It comes with a belt sheath, belt clip, wall mount clip, USB charge cord, AC and DC chargers. The money I've saved on batteries has more than paid for it. My favorite way to use it is to put the belt clip on the bill of my baseball cap and use it as a headlamp so I can work with both hands.

Coast A22R used as a headlamp - spare battery all charged up.

Fits any Mini Maglite size accessory nice and snug.
I recently dropped it (for the 100th time) and it quit working. Dropping it was my fault, it wasn't a defect in materials or workmanship, so I sent it in to be repaired fully expecting to pay to get it fixed. To my surprise they said that it couldn't be repaired, so they sent me a complete new flashlight with all the accessories free of charge under warranty, $5 for shipping. This is the kind of company I want to do more business with!
Just thought I would share a great product offered by a great company. https://coastportland.com
There's a video on the website that shows the beam changing from spot to flood. There's also a big brother, the A25R (725 lumens), and lots of other products.

I don't have that light, but I do have several other Coast products. Very good performance and value for the money.

I've got a few flashlights, a couple of old Mag-lites, a Surfire and a medium size Fenix. I was looking for a small light to stash away and picked up another Fenix ...

... turns out, it has become my go to, every day light.

Coast makes excellent lights. Their headlamps will blow you away. They are a German company named LED Lenser but they go by Coast in the US. Fenix also makes very good lights. That's cool that they were so nice to give you a free light! I've only heard good about Coast.

I only buy Fenix lights. They are so worth the $$! I have their hl60r 950 lumen headlight. It will light up a football field. I also have the cl30 lantern. Both are rechargeable via mini USB external connector (no more buying batteries). I've left the cl30 on for 12 hours straight 2 days in a row overnight on low setting in camp w/o a recharge.

Best one I have ever owned is this one: http://govolt.com/products/g5-flashlight Mine is a little different than the one pictured. Mine has machined knurling on the main part of the handle and has a zoom in and zoom out focusing lens. In zoom out focus, there is absolutely zero dark spots, just a super wide circle of pure bright white light. In zoom in focus, it turns the round beam into a square. It lights up my entire backyard like daylight. 3 C batteries, included. Neighbors thought the cops were in my backyard, lol.

Bought it at the Erie County Fair last year, $45 & we got talking & I had my PW sweatshirt on. He asked, so I told him about my Power Wagon. He threw in a $10 belt holster for the light at no charge & said he hopes to be able to buy a PW someday.

Yeah most are nowadays. There are very few US made lights including Streamlight, Maglite and Surefire maybe a few others.

Unfortunately, this is the world we live in. Here is one with comparable (100 lumens less) light output, made in the USA. $238.50 http://shop.opticsplanet.com/surefire-e ... DQodMMAAhg

I'm going to buy one of these next http://www.foursevens.com/products/MMU-X3R-AF

Who puts a sapphire coating on a flashlight? It's a little tank.

I've been issued a few Streamlights & Surefire lights before going down range. Both were excellent, both use those short fat n-cell expensive batteries, but they last a good while, & are bright, & dimmable/strobe.

I have a Coast Lenser Red/white LED light on my hunting belt the past 7+ years & ive only changed the 3xAAA's once. It's small, uniform size top2bottom, bright, and a great little light. It's similar to this one:

I carry one of those in my duck pack, and it's perfect for futzing around in the blind. They used to come in a silver finish, much easier to find in the bottom of the bag. Good small lights.

Re the lights that use CR123 batteries, they are great as long as you can get batteries, not always available in the boonies or at WalMart. I read a couple of years ago that the standard issue small flashlights for a lot of first responders in CA are always powered by AA batteries, because they are always available. Don't know if that's true, but I try to buy only AA lights these days, so that I only have to carry one size battery in the truck. Also have one of the Pelican LAPD cop lights mounted on its charger in the PW's center console. Works great when I really need to light 'em up.
