Ignition Noise in CB/Ham Radio

Post by CombatWombat » Wed Apr 27, 2016 8:31 am

Hi.

I finally installed my CB Radio

Problem is:

I got Ignition Noise 9+20 on AM like Crazy

When disconnecting the Antenna the Noise is gone. So no problems with Power Source. Power comes direct from a Optima Yellow Top.

Sirio Turbo 5000 Antenna is mounted on the left Tow Mirror

SWR is very good 1.12

Any Ideas to get rid of the Ignition Noise from the Hemi?

Ground?

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

Ground from where? Radio is grounded from Batterie and mounted to the Steel crossmember under the Passenger seat.

Antenna works great and gets ground from the Mirror....

Noise is usually from a bad ground. You might want to move your ground to the frame.

Antenna ground, take it off and make sure it's getting a good ground to the body. Depending on the design, you may need to pigtail it to the frame or something that you know is grounded.

I agree with regrounding the antenna. The mirror is mostly plastic. There won't be a sufficient ground without running wire to a clean ground. You will probably need to retune the antenna when you do this.

I have no noise in my CB using a fender mount antenna.

Probably a good idea to state year of vehicle when looking for detailed answers & also any relevant mods. On my 3rd gen, the factory grounds sucked bigtime. They were bolted onto metal that was primed & painted. I got a bunch of 2 Ga welding cable, soldered on my own lugs, stripped the metal bare where factory grounds were bolted & added a bunch of my own & also stripped to bare metal. Bolted them on & sprayed everything with Fluid Film to prevent future rust.

Added:
d-side front fender to frame
battery - to frame
p-side front fender to frame
bed to frame
bed to cab
cab to frame on p-side
cab to frame on d-side

I had an power amp, speakers & sub installed & they kept telling me my truck was not grounded very good. So, i think what i did pretty much eliminates any grounding issues of truck, permanently !!

Wife is doing good. We went in for a 3rd procedure & she is already back to work. Stuff they did is holding in place well so far. Thanks for asking.
