Re: New rims and tires

Actually I left the lowers on, the upper urethane and sleeves looked very serviceable. If they ever do start to degrade then I'll have to cut them off. UPS delivered the last piece of this puzzle, a Borgesen lower steering shaft. I know I could have done the inexpensive fix using plastic tubing but ...

Re: WTB - winch mount for my 2006 mega

Try Mile Marker, that's what I installed on my 06 CTD. Mile Marker Extreme. I also have the 10.5t hydraulic winch installed in that mount.

Re: New rims and tires

Well, I blasted the front driveline bolts with penetrating oil, may be should hit those arm bolts too. I"m waiting on a long t40 bit for the driveline bolts. Thuren did provide new bolts for the rear of the upper arms.
This is an Arizona truck so hopefully there won't be too much rust.

Re: New rims and tires

There is a level kit on the truck now. I think that's what giving me grief so everything should just bolt right up and be the same. Possibly a bit lower in the front than now which would be ok with me.

Re: New rims and tires

OK, shop tried alignment, could not get within specs. Caster still way to low! Time for all new components. Carli leveling kit (springs, shocks, sway bar links), new Thuren control arms (+1/2" longer) and Synergy steering kit (drag link and tie rod). I had already installed a Carli track bar and Car...

Re: October is expensive truck month, part 2

If you're asking me those AR172 rims are 9" wide, -12mm offset giving them a back space of 4.53" Stock wheels were 8" +43mm offset giving them 6.6 backspace. The tires do stick out a bit farther than stock and do not rub body or suspension on my leveled 06 CTD. BTW they are the only size listed to f...

I just put new tires and rims on my CTD, I think the American Racing AR172 are nice and heavy duty.

Re: New rims and tires

They do look good! But my real concern is how well they stand up to the torque of this diesel and my off pavement excursions for search and rescue. As you can see with all the Arizona pinstripes on the side of my truck this is no pavement queen.
Thanks for the comments guys.

New rims and tires

After two warranty replacements and three attempts to balance a set of Continental tires I decide to get new wheels and tires. Cooper AT3 XLT's and a set of American racing AR172, black. So far without adjusting the air perssure they ride nice, will do a chalk test tomorrow to find the ultimate pres...

That's good to hear! I'm going to order the SynergyMFG steering kit for my CTD, I hope it works as well as yours did! My truck is all over the road even with a new Carli track bar.

Keeps the trans fluid cooler by keeping the TC locked up more, but it will decrease your fuel mileage because of later shifts to higher gears.

Re: offroad gimbal mounts for action cams like gopro?

A gimbal mount will not keep the image stable if you are bouncing down the path. Gimbals only help with roll, pitch and yaw movement, not up and down and it needs some kind of dampening or it will just rock and roll all over the place. You need image stabilization.

I have a 5 lb carbon dioxide extinguisher right at the tailgate of my truck but am considering one of these https://elementfire.com/products/element-e50 for my camping trailer. This is an old dry chemical I had at one time, same location as the new co2 one now. http://photocamel.com/gallery/data/615...

Re: Antifreeze smell

Head gasket is a culprit for sure. Had that issue with a LR Discovery. Always a smell and never any evidence. Definitely curious as others seem to have similar issues. That's what I though too with my truck loosing coolant for years but it turned out to be a cracked radiator end. Too small to see a...

Re: Antifreeze smell

My truck was loosing a bit of coolantfor years, no idea where or how, no detectable leaks anywhere. Finally one day I saw a small puddle of coolant on the road, it was a cracked radiator end. Replaced the radiator with an all aluminum one. No more coolant loss.

Re: 2013+ truck steering nut recall?

My 06 CTD has that same problem. Every time I do a rough off road ride I have to recenter the steering wheel. I figgured it was the threads jumping but happens so infrequently that I just recenter when needed. I don't want to hve to take the front end apart to fix it! But maybe I should, would hate ...

:poke: Come on guys, can't we all get along? I remember when I got my Diesel Ram every one was joshing me, now it's twinstick with a Chvey. Any truck that gets you where you want to go and back again is ok in my world. He can always put a winch in his truck and still be in the winch mob.
