Re: New Rear Bumper?

Just wonder if it uses the chessy factory mounts?
So far, every bumper I have looked at uses the factory mounts. You could fab something stronger, but why? Do jacking and recovery from the factory hitch receiver, which is a lot stronger than just about any bumper.

Re: New Rear Bumper?

Smitty 614800 Fits 2005.jpg Just got off the phone with 4WP re the Smitty bumper, P/N 614800, fits PWs thru 2009. P/N 614802 fits 2010+. Bumper is pretty simple design, no options, black wrinkle finish (pretty dumb on a bumper) powdercoat. Includes two 3"x3" cutouts with cheap LEDs mounted (replace...

Re: New Rear Bumper?

Just looked at your Fusion thread. It's now off my list, looks too flimsy. Thanks.

I'm actually going to call 4WP about a ShittyBilt bumper. Sad state of affairs.

Fusion Rear 10245446_702871219751100_5903991446108423975_n.jpg This Fusion? Probably the cleanest looking bumper out there, but the angled lower section and the license recess looks like it will be impossible to mount my current Hella lights. Fitting quality LEDs into the bumper to throw as much li...

Re: Strange A/C Problem

Referring to your engine cooling fan? Nope. On my '05 there is a separate electric A/C fan on the left side that is intended to draw ambient air through the little A/C radiator. Has is own motor and shroud, completely separate from the engine cooling fan. It is my understanding that the compressor ...

Re: Strange A/C Problem

but if your fan quit working, it could definitely exceed the limit and shut off the compressor. Thanks. That's what we suspect is happening, but hard to check the fan at 70mph. Fan works great sitting in the shop, so there may be something else going on. Swapping parts might only rule out the fan a...

New Rear Bumper?

After 13 years, I finally bent my rear bumper backing into a post in the desert near dark. Not a big ding but it bothers me, so I'm thinking about an aftermarket bumper. Looked around online and nothing seems like a fit for my preferences. I want something simple and functional, no laser cutouts of ...

Re: Wheels?

Are they not lug centric? Hub centric. Some guys get away with the router treatment, but that plus big tires and high speeds is probably a dangerous combination, especially on trucks that may tend toward death wobble. It's been a long time since I did mine, but I found a shop with a wheel lathe and...

Re: Strange A/C Problem

I used to use a cheap cooking thermometer but they are not "instant read" as are the infrareds. When I used the infrared on the trip I made sure the laser dot was always around the same spot on the back face of the plastic duct, behind the dash grill. So, I was mostly reading the temp of the plastic...

Re: Wheels?

The raised bead on the original PW is an attractive feature. I believe H2 wheels may have had it as well (my buddy had a similar size rig and popper way less beads with the same tires and H2 rims.) I have been running H2 wheels for maybe 8 or 9 years with a couple sets of 35" Toyos. These wheels gi...

Re: Strange A/C Problem

Since a WOT scenario usually only lasts a few seconds, it generally goes unnoticed by the driver. When I first noticed the problem on Friday, I thought it was my imagination. When I got to Yuma I dug out the infrared to see if my perceptions were correct and it was even worse than I thought. Re che...

Strange A/C Problem

Not very off-roady, but I am suddenly having a goofy issue with my air conditioning on my '05. A/C has always been great on this truck, but last week in AZ it started acting up. Using an infrared thermometer to check vent temps while driving, I get readings from 17F (freakishly low) to 94F (like dri...

IMG_0630.jpg IMG_0630.jpg See PW pics below. I mounted four Hella units under the rear bumper on a piece of steel channel bolted in the center where the hitch ball would go on the bumper (bolt and washer visible where center cap is missing). The oval lights are work lights, each with two 55W haloge...

Re: Battery question

A single good battery has almost all the same positives with almost none of the downsides, particularly cost. A single good battery can't run a fridge in the desert without solar, and solar costs about the same as a basic dual battery system. Solar does not give you any redundancy or backup for win...

Re: Battery question

If your batteries are isolated, they still connect when charging, which is the entire time you’re driving. I use a Painless Performance solenoid isolator, controlled from a dash toggle, and a separate Blue Seas Systems rotary switch for my three batteries. That combination allows me to isolate or c...

Re: Battery question

From my experience, dual battery setups have the disadvantage that when one battery dies it kills the other one too. Does not happen if they are properly isolated. Mine are always isolated when the truck is off, unless I set the switch to combine them. I only combine them when off if I want to char...

Has anyone tried to or is running dual Optima Blue top batteries, positioned sideways, in stock location ? Just curious. I have seen them in Jeeps 4Runners & FJ Cruisers. I have a pair of Optima Blue dual purpose (same as the Yellows but with extra studs) as my house batteries in the PW. They are t...

Re: Battery question

Part of the answer is to install the largest and heaviest battery that will physically fit the truck, even if you have to change the hold-downs. Weight means lead and lead is good. Generally, you will want an AGM, but flooded lead acid (FLA) will probably last longer while producing less power at lo...

Re: Another PW lifted with Blocks and Spacers

Mine is a 3G so somewhat different from a 4G. My usual opinion is that leveling kits are a dumb mod and not useful for anything but looks if you don't really need the clearance for the tires you want to run. Most 3G and apparently 4G PWs will easily run 35s with stock suspension, so you probably don...

have read a lot of pushback when it comes to modding these power wagons
There is no resistance to modding PWs. Any resistance you may have sensed is to dumb mods. There is a difference.

Re: 2015 Needs a new battery

Looks like a 94R is almost the physical size of of a 31, and lots of 31s are available with reversed posts, if that's an issue. Also looks like a good 31 will give you about a 25-30% increase in capacity over a 94R. Back on Odysseys, it seems that the 31 is the only one that causes trouble, at least...

Re: 2015 Needs a new battery

Interstate may think they have a line of premium AGMs, but the rest of the world is not so sure about that. They are decent batteries, but "premium" is a stretch. Depending on where you are and how you use the truck, your best bet might be to buy a mid-market battery like the Deka or Interstate and ...

Re: 2015 Needs a new battery

I have had very bad luck with Odyssey Grp 31s in my '05. Most Grp 31s will just barely fit the PW Grp 65 box (assuming they are the same on yours as on the 3Gs), but you'll need to fiddle the hold downs and maybe belt sand the ends of the battery a little to get it to slide down into the box. I have...
