Re: Air Lift Bags and Uptravel

I don’t remember the number, I believe it was about an inch less travel. You usually will have even less than that due to the rapid spring rate increase of bags as you compress them unless you have them fully collapsed at ride height.

Re: Air Lift Bags and Uptravel

If your trailer is really only about 8k, and you aren’t using a weight distributing hitch, I would go with the WD first. I know several guys with power wagons, either stock or with softer thuren rear coils, that use WD exclusively with campers that weight or more, that do not need air bags. I genera...

Re: 14+ Possible Fan Clutch failure?

That’s common in new fans. I’ve had it from OEM and Napa fans. I don’t think my Cummins has done it down to -5F though.

Re: 100% cure for death wobble

My OEM damper with a bent shaft, puking oil, with two massive dents in it, kept DW away while I drove 60 miles to a buddy to press in new ball joints. Truck had tires coming off the ground going 40 on the road from DW without the damper.

100% cure for death wobble

Death wobble is developed from the axle being unable to correct tire direction, or from over correction. Death wobble comes from an issue with alignment-affecting components. Tie rod, ball joints, axle straightness, wheel bearings, tires, control arm bushings, and alignment angles. The steering damp...

Re: Tranny Guard for ≤'13 Power Wagon

Real early to say how things will go, but based on a current design for the diesels, I might have the hard part of the design tackled before even touching the 03-13 trucks due to one commonality between them. I don’t have an earlier truck here to measure anymore though so...

Re: Smoked a motor

I haven’t heard of a rocker breaking! That’s wild. I’d be concerned with metal shavings from the cam. It is possible the pickup screen caught them but the cam bearings are definitely at risk even if nothing got into the pump.

Re: 2018 Death Wobble - Buy Once Cry Once

Leaving the steering stabilizer off is an accelerated way to test DW, but if it’s already on then no need to remove it. I’d like to know if everything goes well now, or not.

Alignment numbers look very good to me!

Re: 37" tires with 25mm offset

Despite the uh, click-bait title of the video, it primarily deals with common tire sizes on these trucks. Yes, you can fit 37’s on +25mm offsets just fine, with zero lift, in hard use. Some trimming of the plastic fender liner with a box knife, a bit off the bottom of the fender flare, and some on t...

Re: Noise in 66rfe transmission

My 545 had a sprag failure. Reverse was very slow to grab, and would drop out and grab again pretty regularly if I didn’t have throttle on it, but held strong if it had a little speed to it. I dislike the thought of pulling a trans. I also think that once you’ve ridden in a truck with a built trans ...

The Magna axles they were using before were completely unlike any other Chrysler axles. Good luck if you wanted to upgrade them or even easily fi...

Re: Anybody build a driveline protection solution that works?

If you look at the bottom of the front axle casting you can see the change. I.e. if you wanted to weld a truss on, I think it will not working with previous models. I haven’t spent much time examining those details on the front, I don’t know what else has changed there. Most of the front looks the s...

Anybody build a driveline protection solution that works?

All 2500/3500 trucks have the changes underneath. Power wagons aren’t special variants. New front axle casting, new rear axle casting, larger rear axle tubes, different diff cover patterns (existing diff guards won’t fit the new trucks), new transfer case, new Rzeppa front driveshaft, new rear drive...

Re: Tranny Guard for ≤'13 Power Wagon

Financially it is almost always more feasible to buy a used truck and then modify and repair it and still come out on top vs buying new. However it just seems to not usually end up that way. There are some guys that follow through with it, but it’s so common for guys to buy a ‘lifetime truck’, make ...

Re: Anybody build a driveline protection solution that works?

I think most people aren’t doing these things. Many people change tires. Beyond that, we are a rare and small group of people who change things like wheels, armor, bumpers, etc.

The price continues to go up, and sales support it. It’s done in unison between manufacturer and consumer.

Anybody build a driveline protection solution that works?

I think that is a cheap view of the new trucks. They’re making nice improvements, particularly in steering reliability, payload and NVH. They enlarged the rear axle tubes, made new axle castings front and rear, added a forged steel trackbar mount, changed transfer cases, etc. It’s not that there’s a...

Haven’t seen one yet that works but I’ll be working on something now that I’ve got mounting more figured out. The 19+ trucks need it desperately... Whats the difference with the new ones? The axle castings are different, the driveshafts now have a balanced on both ends, and the rear one at the pini...

I just looked under the hood of a 6.7 Powerstroke. I have no intentions of ever having to work on one. The gas engine must do better at accessibility and simplicity than the diesel does. Not having diesel emissions, nor complexity, in the form of a big block engine with a heavy casting and big displ...

You can watch the fan at idle once it is warm and you’ve revved the engine to break the static hold and see if it is turning at engine RPM or slower.

Re: Tranny Guard for ≤'13 Power Wagon

There’s a lot of these trucks out there. The problems are that guys with older trucks don’t invest in them, the money they would invest frequently goes to repairs, and there’s fewer of them. I probably sell 15:1 suspension parts for 14-present vs 03-13 trucks. There is a market, the question is alwa...
