Re: Welding Axle Tubes

Really no point in welding the tubes unless you truss it, with the exception being if you had a diesel and you crawl with it. Otherwise, I’ve not seen power wagons spin tubes. Either do a full truss or leave it be. This is what spinning tubes looks like, under a manual transmission Cummins. Cause w...

Tranny Guard for ≤'13 Power Wagon

I prototyped the 03-13 trucks and they are a pain in the butt. The mounting methods just aren’t there and it was going to be a lot more expensive to make the skid plates, and with a much smaller demand. Additionally I was trying to make the skid plate work for the diesels, which make things VERY dif...

Haven’t seen one yet that works but I’ll be working on something now that I’ve got mounting more figured out. The 19+ trucks need it desperately...

If you get a real tuner, like the Diablosport, and a custom tune, you might see 1mpg gain roughly.

$<400 doesn’t buy you a tuner and nothing buys you 8mpg

Re: 2018 Death Wobble - Buy Once Cry Once

If TRE’s are tight, if we are to assume the ball joints are good, I’d definitely look at swapping trackbars. The radius arm center bushings do seem to die somewhat soon on the Articulink arms but based on what I’ve seen on a lot of trucks, if your radius arm bushing already looks like that then I wo...

Re: THE BIGGEST TIRE YOU CAN FIT

You could definitely be right, and that’s why this is an experiment. The recipe for 40’s is straightforward at this point, but we both wanted to avoid using AEV flares if possible due to the look and the width. Thurens 38’s had big issues because they were 15.5” wide. There’s no faking 40’s. We inte...

Re: THE BIGGEST TIRE YOU CAN FIT

There’s about a $4-5,000 difference in cost of entry between 39’s and 40’s just in flares and wheels, and a $5,000 difference in vehicle value when you do AEV flares; that would be more but you’re already doing some trimming to fit 39’s so it’s not like it’s going to stay all pretty and new. It’s al...

Yeah the rear axle moved forward as it compresses. 37’s will just rub the fender flare at full articulation.

Re: OEM Wheel Load Rating?

The Methods are probably fine, but I’ve seen too many of them fail to run them myself. The lips crack, the center rims crack, and the spoke-rim connection cracks. If you want a no BS wheel that holds up great, and looks great, I carry Trail Ready’s and I spec them for these trucks. High-pressure cas...

Hutchinson makes HMMWV wheels, which are steel.

Method uses low pressure cast aluminum.

Generally aluminum is much better in our applications. There’s high and low quality in everything.

How hard do you plan to use the truck? Methods don’t like being beat on hard, but if you aren’t planning for that they’re probably fine.

Factory wheels haven’t been forged since about 2008

Re: 2018 Death Wobble - Buy Once Cry Once

Straight axle vehicles only get DW if something is worn out or the alignment is off. I’ve had minor DW develop into tires-off-the-ground DW in a power wagon, after only replacing the tie rod and assuming everything else was good. Ball joints were the rest of the fix. DW comes from the inability of t...

You can program tire size with either an AEV ProCal or the AlfaOBD app on an android device.

What sounds are you hearing from your suspension??? Is this all engine and tire noise or is this suspension noise? That system should be silent.

Re: 2018 Death Wobble - Buy Once Cry Once

Dang that’s early to get DW on an 18. Yep, do that test. You’re spot on with the parts affecting the system. Usually ball joints last a lot longer but sometimes they can go out. Usually tie rod ends also last longer than this as well. In my opinion the best way to test ball joints is to lift the fro...

Re: Airlifter 5000 Ultimate airbags w/ Daystar cradles '14+

One of the OG PWIM guys did a Currie AntiRock swaybar in the rear and said it was a big improvement. That rear bar sits fairly narrowly so it makes sense that adding a wider bar with adjustability is helpful. Don’t know how much that really applies to most guys unless you’re running top heavy or jam...

The 2019 link is the way to go if you can get it. There are aftermarket companies making ‘stronger’ units, but once you have a ‘strong enough’ unit why would you need more? I think the point is lost in a lot of this thinking that having the strongest linkage possible is ideal, while also running les...

It might be close. The lower edge of the fender flare would be the contact point. Clearance when parked is different than clearance going 30mph when the chains are centrifuging out.
