Re: The Cactus Red mod thread.

Got 31000 miles out of the 315/70-17 Cooper ST Pros. All in all, they were an excellent tire. Very good traction, very tough sidewalls. But, as part of now towing our new camper, I decided to go back to stock tires in a slightly less aggressive tread pattern. The truck is now wearing 285/70-17 Coope...

Re: The Cactus Red mod thread.

Greetings! It's been a while... We've joined the heavy towing club. Bought an Outdoors RV Black Rock 24KTS. If you haven't seen one, I'm not surprised. They are a small scale manufacture of truly capable trailers designed for off grid camping. Dry weight is 6900 lbs, but add in the 90 gallons of wat...

Re: Synthetic rope install

I replaced my synthetic rope last October after 7 years of service. If you take care of it, it will last a long time. Once off the drum, I salvaged two extensions from the old 90' line, one 25', the other 20'. Get the tools you need to splice rope - it's easy to do. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

3000 to 3500 miles. Camber is measured at 0.6, so I get very even wear.

Re: The Cactus Red mod thread.

I'm at 20k + on the tires, and I expect to get to 30k before replacing them. At that point I would guess they will be under half tread depth. Tires went into service in Nov of 2015, so if they get me thru to this Nov, I'll be very pleased. Traction is still excellent, but they are starting to talk t...

Dillon Aero Minigun Demo

...at the AZ Game nad Fish Expo at Ben Avery Shooting Range. With over a hundred exhibitors and lots of guns available to shoot, it's always a fun day. But, when Dillon shows up, that takes the cake. The gun was cool, and so was the Aussie sourced Toyota HiLux diesel it was mounted on. And Miss Dec ...

My buddy Dustin drew a picture of Cactus Red for me. Done in water color pens, it's a way cool rendition of the truck.

2017 Parker 425 YouTube videos are up!

Nuther great time at the 2017 Parker 425. Spec-tater'ed again this year out at North Well. Got some good video at three places. Turn up the volume and listen for the sounds of the trucks as they approach. The course was it's normal brutal self - over a 50% attrition rate. Times were down as well - t...

They won't guarantee the work without it. I guess it's common to crack the plastic lines.

Re: Strangest thing yet...

I did OK chasing the rally cars, kept the closing car in sight, even after 11.5 miles. I know the volunteers got a kick out of seeing a FS truck at 65 to 70 MPH. I do have the advantage of knowing the roads very well tho.

Strangest thing yet...

Spent Friday evening and today running sweep at the Prescott Rally. Sometime this morning, a piece of steel was kicked up off the course by the left front tire. It punctured the fuel tank about 3" above the skid. It wasn't a stream, just a fast drip. I carry Permatex Fuel Tank epoxy in my kit, somet...

Re: The Cactus Red mod thread.

Almost exactly 5 years ago, two DieHard Platinum batteries were put in the truck. Today I noticed the windows were sluggish, and after isolating the rear battery, found they were at 12.32 (front G65) and 12.30 (rear G31) volts after sitting all weekend. Those batteries are no longer available at Sea...

Re: Diesel PW Build Thread

I had the 35W HID LF's early on in Cactus Red's build. Very, very bright, but on the RED Inc. light bar were prone to severe vibration when used off road on heavy washboard roads. The all plastic mount is very high to the attachment point. Never was able to solve that. The additional lens covers wer...

Re: Diff protection covers or slider

The Spyder cover does fine on the front. Takes a good whack, and more importantly, keeps you from peeling open the lip when backing off stuff when you hang the diff. The billet covers from DT ProFab are welded and then machined absolutely flat. No leaks on mine. Socialism: A stage of society in Marx...

Re: Snatch/yarding block differences?

This is my kit. All three pulley's are 20K rated, the shackles are (5) 3/4" and (3) 7/8", all rated at 6.5T. Don't over think it - these have done multiple double line pulls, dozens of single line pulls, and many redirected pulls. The snatch blocks are: Smitty Built 20K, ARB 9000 20K, Warn 88899 20K...

Re: Snatch/yarding block differences?

So, the load on each line is no more than the rating of the winch pulling in the cable, but the load at the moving hook is higher. In our case, the pulley is fixed to a tree or PulPal. The moving load is the truck itself with only one point fixed as it were. Socialism: A stage of society in Marxist ...

Re: Snatch/yarding block differences?

Again, the load can't exceed the rating of the winch at any attachment point. The physics are straight forward. You do get a theoretical 30K of load, but it"s split between two points, the pulley and the anchor point. That's just the way it works. Here's some mathematics that show it better than I c...
