Re: Camper tunes......

Just got back home from the Erie County Fair, opening day. My 6"x9" boxes & my Kicker 6x9 speakers, wire, & hardware, arrived for the camper. Gonna have my stereo shop/or me, rig it so I have plugs on outside of camper (or in the storage compartment), & on the inside of camper, & a speaker selector...

You guys know there is a up/down button right there on your shifter. Use it. Don't just leave it in D all the time. Right? I always laugh at people riding the brakes going down the mountains. I drop a gear and coast the whole way down. Even the """professional drivers""" don't do this... they...

Re: Octane at altitude and MPG on 6.4L

The higher the octane, the less likely to pre detonate but also less energy/volume ratio. Lower octane gas actually has more energy per gallon than high octane so if your engine will run on regular use it! This. Running race gas in an engine that isn't tuned for it doesn't turn it into a race motor...

Two were Napas. Not sure on the other one. Lifetime warranty, but still kind of a pain in the ass when it does go.
Two of the three have gone in May ... after a snowmo season.

Re: Water pump replacement

Just had another water pump (3rd one now) replaced under warranty last month. Started running hot on my way up the mountain with a trailer in tow... added about half a gallon, continued running hot but within tolerance. Pissed coolant off and on, but didn't lose more than half a gallon. Serp/tension...

Re: Trail radios.......

For vehicle, handheld/portable, or base/fixedpoint use? CB has its applications. Big power, big antennas, lots of atmospheric issues. I'm not a fan of it, but it is useful in some cases. Ham/amateur gives you a LOT of flexibility/freedom, bands, features, modes, power... at the expense of needing a ...

Re: More camper shenanigans

Been asked several times now "Why don't you just buy a trailer instead of putting two years of work into building one?"
Well, reasons like this is why.

That sucks though. Don't know that I'd take a camper back to anyone other than maybe an insurance company.

Re: Serpentine belt popped!

Has to get a lot hotter for longer before you'll have problems there. The normal protection is typically more than sufficient for overheating incidents. Check all the bearings - find out why the belt let go. Mine was pretty obvious. https://photos.smugmug.com/Trucks/Ram-2500/i-zDZt55H/0/L/IM...

Re: HAM Radios

What I'll probably do is mount the 5550e guts next to the 8800 guts, then put an antenna-switch in. Keep the 8800 installed, just stash the mic in with the rest of my recovery gear and switch the antenna over if I need VHF. It still works, it's just starting to go a little wonky. Might just need a r...

What are the thoughts on this radio. It keeps popping up on Amazon. It's quadband transmit and dual receive. 50w and 40w https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00I53VUEY/ref=pd_luc_rh_sbs_01_01_t_img_lh?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 For that price, why not shop around for a used FT8900? Cheap and replaceable, yes... but what happens when one breaks and you don't have a spare with you. Kinda why I want comm gear that I can grab by the antenna and use as a wheel chock, then pick it up and not worry about whether it's going to work or not. In the manual for my XPR, it says "if the uni...
