Back home after a really good day.

Traffic on the 91 was horrible, but whatever :)

It was great to meet everyone!

Just got into town, grabbing a bite to eat, then heading over to the discovery center for an adventure pass and then I'll meet up with everyone at the north shore cafe

Re: Big Bear Run, Novemner 2016.

I have a vhf "race" radio i use when putting for desert races. I can bring that along if that be compatible with some of your coms? -Really depends on the specific capabilities of the radio. A quick test is to see if you can set it to 146.520 Mhz or something near that. =Or, let us know which frequ...

Re: Big Bear Run, Novemner 2016.

Well, I am all set :-) Got my on-board air worked out, did some work to my radios and have packed some basic tools and recovery gear.

Definitely X2 on an adventure pass.

Re: LagunaH1's build thread

Another quick update:

Yesterday I replaced the Kenwood dual band dual receive radio with my ICOM IC-7000 HF/VHF/UHF radio. -This way I can add a mobile HF antenna and have mobile HF capabilities so I can reach out and talk to someone regardless of whether there are any repeaters in range.

Re: LagunaH1's build thread

The compressor gets its main power from the 2 gauge cable I have run from the truck's main battery. (this is the same connection I use for my HAM radios and the accessory battery) The compressor comes with a complete wiring harness which supports a couple of different setups, such as air lockers, bu...

Re: LagunaH1's build thread

Yesterday I got my ARB compressor installed and wired in. I still need to clean up the wiring a little but everything works beautifully. The compressor handily creates 90 PSI and does a real nice job inflating my tires.

Pictures to follow.

Yeah, that's what I keep thinking, too... -Just make some decent wooden dividers and secure them to the floor.

In-bed tool box space & cargo management

Hi everyone, For those of you who have a tool box in your PW bed, what have you done to organize the tool box such that contents doesn't move around? I'd love to see a couple of pictures and just in general get a couple of pointers to where to start looking for some form of space divider or some oth...

Re: Big Bear Run, Novemner 2016.

LOL yeah, but... again, you get what you pay for. Those expensive radios no doubt were engineered to withstand heat, moisture, vibration, dust and VERY very difficult operating conditions from an RF perspective. That quality of engineering is expensive

Re: Big Bear Run, Novemner 2016.

If I get an HT, would I need to program the exact channels would use for a group run ahead of time, or could I adjust to a wavelength when we meet up? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The latter. You'd simply agree with your buddies about the frequency and then set the radio to do that. -This is ...

Re: Big Bear Run, Novemner 2016.

Almost regardless of which radio you go with, you can program it using software on your PC.

My vote would be for a used Yaesu. I'm a fan of that brand:)

Re: Big Bear Run, Novemner 2016.

So, I think this all will come down to this: From where would you anticipate calling? -And who would you want to call? The hand helds and the mobile VHF / UHF radios have "line of sight" coverage range. In other words: Ii you can see it, you can talk to it. If you want to talk to it, you need to be ...

Re: Big Bear Run, Novemner 2016.

A good place to start for a "mobile" radio (that's HAM speak for a radio intended to be installed in a vehicle or as a base station) could be something like a Yaesu FT-8800R. This is a dual band (vhf and uhf) dual receive(it has 2 receivers so you can listen to 2 frequencies at the same time) radio....

Here is the website I used to study and train and memorize (yes, memorize) for all the 3 tests I went through: http://www.hamradiolicenseexam.com/index.html I don't know whether they charge these days, they used to have a free and a paid option. Regardless of which study website you choose, I'd sugg...

Re: Big Bear Run, Novemner 2016.

Sure thing. I wonder if this thread is the right place for that?

With regards to radio: Think about what you'd like to use it for. Who do you want to talk to? Under which conditions? -There are really cheap (Chinese manufactured) HAM hand held radios, but as with anything: You get what you pay for.

Looks like I'm not the only HAM radio operator going to Big Bear. Should we pick a frequency to hang out on for the day?

Maybe something like 144.350?

Re: Ram Rebel TRX Concept

I really really like the way it looks. I wonder if those anemic front half shafts are one of the things "expected" on a concept/ show truck.... given that it likely never will be out of the hands of a factory driver...? Eh, speculative on my part:-)
