Re: Battery question

A single good battery has almost all the same positives with almost none of the downsides, particularly cost. A single good battery can't run a fridge in the desert without solar, and solar costs about the same as a basic dual battery system. Solar does not give you any redundancy or backup for win...

Re: Battery question

If your batteries are isolated, they still connect when charging, which is the entire time you’re driving. I use a Painless Performance solenoid isolator, controlled from a dash toggle, and a separate Blue Seas Systems rotary switch for my three batteries. That combination allows me to isolate or c...

Re: Battery question

From my experience, dual battery setups have the disadvantage that when one battery dies it kills the other one too. Does not happen if they are properly isolated. Mine are always isolated when the truck is off, unless I set the switch to combine them. I only combine them when off if I want to char...

Re: Battery question

Has anyone tried to or is running dual Optima Blue top batteries, positioned sideways, in stock location ? Just curious. I have seen them in Jeeps 4Runners & FJ Cruisers. I have a pair of Optima Blue dual purpose (same as the Yellows but with extra studs) as my house batteries in the PW. They are t...

Re: Battery question

Part of the answer is to install the largest and heaviest battery that will physically fit the truck, even if you have to change the hold-downs. Weight means lead and lead is good. Generally, you will want an AGM, but flooded lead acid (FLA) will probably last longer while producing less power at lo...

Re: Another PW lifted with Blocks and Spacers

Mine is a 3G so somewhat different from a 4G. My usual opinion is that leveling kits are a dumb mod and not useful for anything but looks if you don't really need the clearance for the tires you want to run. Most 3G and apparently 4G PWs will easily run 35s with stock suspension, so you probably don...

Re: Another PW lifted with Blocks and Spacers

have read a lot of pushback when it comes to modding these power wagons
There is no resistance to modding PWs. Any resistance you may have sensed is to dumb mods. There is a difference.

Re: 2015 Needs a new battery

Looks like a 94R is almost the physical size of of a 31, and lots of 31s are available with reversed posts, if that's an issue. Also looks like a good 31 will give you about a 25-30% increase in capacity over a 94R. Back on Odysseys, it seems that the 31 is the only one that causes trouble, at least...

Re: 2015 Needs a new battery

Interstate may think they have a line of premium AGMs, but the rest of the world is not so sure about that. They are decent batteries, but "premium" is a stretch. Depending on where you are and how you use the truck, your best bet might be to buy a mid-market battery like the Deka or Interstate and ...

Re: 2015 Needs a new battery

I have had very bad luck with Odyssey Grp 31s in my '05. Most Grp 31s will just barely fit the PW Grp 65 box (assuming they are the same on yours as on the 3Gs), but you'll need to fiddle the hold downs and maybe belt sand the ends of the battery a little to get it to slide down into the box. I have...

So, most guys suggest Toyos and you get something else? This will almost certainly generate some "told you so's" down the road.

Or use a grinder with a well worn sanding disc pad to just remove the paint
If you try a grinder on some BFGs, you just get to more white. How do I know? Inside rubbing on a set of flipped 35s on my old GMC.

Stack is only partially correct. We have a problem with criminals and crazies in this country, regardless of their choice of weapon. Best current example is the Austin bombings. Aside from that, Stack is a fool.

My barber's grand daughter just graduated from the LAPD Academy. Got her mother's actual badge, not just the same number. Her dad is a cop, too. She could kick my ass six ways from Sunday. That makes me feel safe.

Well, it's about time. My '05 is still the best truck I have ever owned, and I plan to keep it for as long as I am able to drive. Also retired, and too damned busy to enjoy life.

give about 60 more HP and up to 5mpg Not going to get both at the same time. There is no free lunch. It's been a few years since I looked seriously at programmer specs and claims, but the most tha...

Re: Good N Useful land anchor?

I think a Pull-Pal is a better solution if you have a winch. This thing takes almost as much space as a Pull-Pal, weighs almost as much, and is too close in price. If you look around, there are used Pull-Pals available for cheap. I have three Pull-Pals, all from Craigslist. Got a small one (Jeep siz...

Re: Dicks Sporting Goods.................

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away... Last July I caught two burglars/druggies inside my cabin. I had a .44 Mag S&W with me. I called the sheriff re crime in progress, told them I had a gun and two perps, and I needed a deputy RIGHT NOW. Took five calls and twenty minutes for the d...
