Re: 2018 Transmission Failure

so i picked up the truck after 3 weeks and 2 days and it was running just fine about 8 miles home down a main city road, 45MPH. Taking it easy, as if i had just experienced a trans failure... reverse into my driveway, Hard shift to Reverse, clunk into park. Thought it was just learning shifts...

Re: Toyo Open Country R/T vs Open Country A/T II

,I think there is a finer line between 50k highway/all road miles vs age/gravel/load varied use. Ive never had a tire last me more then 20k miles, because like you, wear bars indicate you now have lesser traction. All my Suvs did tires in with about 12-15k miles my sedans were about 15-18k miles jee...

Re: Toyo Open Country R/T vs Open Country A/T II

... you need a winter set, you need an AT every other season set. Your winter set will go for many seasons. That may work if you live among the palm trees :poke: Many of us are in a wintry mode for much of the year... and im palm tree green with envy.... actually though. I hate the heat, and used t...

Re: Toyo Open Country R/T vs Open Country A/T II

for sure...we drive some heavy lards. the tires best for winter, are not suited for summer pavement. winter tread does not burn away on cold pavement, but summer tread will burn away faster then when on hot blacktop. And most AT tire compounds are pretty soft. you need a winter set, you need an AT e...

Re: 2018 Transmission Failure

stock gears and 37’s is extremely hard on trans fluid and clutch packs if you drive aggressively, which I think he probably does. Resetting tire size in the pcm doesn’t really change that fact. again, 37s just went on 1k or so miles ago. your going to tell me 37s caused a failure in a month or so o...

Re: 2018 Transmission Failure

Didn't you do a tuner a while back? correcting for tire size / shift points / transmission / etc? Definitely don't share that with any dealer... :secret: I wonder if something went wrong in that process and hastened your impending transmission failure... :excited: always wanted to do a new PCM tune...

Re: Toyo Open Country R/T vs Open Country A/T II

i cant believe your actually upset about 30K + miles on a set of tires, that are like new to some people out there... there is in fact tread left that will keep you safe on dry pavement. Yes, they no longer inspire confidence on wet roads or off road, but you could travel another 10k miles of desert...

Re: 2018 Transmission Failure

not to arm chair qauter back the situation but if the trans isnt working right, why keep driving it another 25k miles ? with a heavy foot, 37s and 4.10 gears, i can see the trans burning up. why the tcase oil is black still has me a bit stumped, but it must have seen extreme heat as well Im sorry, ...

Re: 2018 Transmission Failure

Is the dealer still gonna look into this free of charge with the 37’s on there? Or did you swap out for stock size tires prior to taking it in? absolutely Ive been complaining since stock. Which was quickly over. 20k miles on the 35s which are actually 33s. Still wasnt happy on 35s. to tell you the...

Re: PWJouster's Build - 2018 Power Wagon "TrailWhale"

That's probably what burned up your transmission. During relearn the transmission clutches slip and line pressure is lower. during relearn i tried a few different techniques. constant Tow mode driving slow driving hard the easier i was on the gas pedal, the more lethargic the shifting and lugging w...

Re: Bed Rack/Solar/AC/Fridge/offGrid

command vehicles have alot of hot running equipment that i probably wont. cab vent area and bed mounted ac system provide a compact footprint to mount. but i was thinking even smaller. Im not talking about a huge Air conditioning load, but a smaller unit. there are a few emerging startup companies p...

Re: PWJouster's Build - 2018 Power Wagon "TrailWhale"

I requested it to be done because the trans would learn ways around my aggressive driving. And each reset gave me temporarily improved crisper shifting and proper gear selection.

Re: 2018 Transmission Failure

Transfer case fluid was black, trans fluid color was dark but still translucent, but again, I had hard shifting and bad lugging from day one on stock tires. I had light 35s for most of its life. I changed the fluids just as a precautionary measure to remove any material floating around from break in.

Isn't the transmission flushed at 100K plus? This is the kind of stuff that scares me on Rams. Mines has done some weird things, but performs normally most of the time.
i didnt have it flushed with a flushing system.

oil was drained and refilled.

Re: PWJouster's Build - 2018 Power Wagon "TrailWhale"

i have the 100k mile warranty. I thought FCA cut the powertrain warranty to 5/50 for HD gassers? How did you get 100K? I'm shocked a truck that is less than year or a little over and tranny already failed? You must ride hard. According to some, flushing has it pros and cons and could have mucked up...

with how supple the suspension is, if my driving had anything to do with it, then it aint no HD. i dont treat it like i treat loaners is what i mean.

2018 Transmission Failure

25k miles on the truck. said it from the get-go...Transmission tuning is crap, shift logic is crap, lugging is crap, downshifts are crap. Trans is out for the count. Had it flushed around 20k miles. At 25k miles now. The other day it had a hard downshift, almost felt like i got rear ended... Then th...

Re: PWJouster's Build - 2018 Power Wagon "TrailWhale"

well, hopefully Ram will revert to a re manufactured unit and not the current re-assembled by a dealer tech. Although i have high regards for my tech and shop, the recent flush may have triggered something..... i assume ill be factory covered for awhile on transmissions so long as i stick to stock. ...

wait, are you saying you had the solenoid recall completed, dealer said trans looks like shit. you took it to a trans shop and then it failed two months after you built it aftermarket, or you built it after it failed two months after Recall? who did the trans build? everyone ive called says 68rfe on...

Re: PWJouster's Build - 2018 Power Wagon "TrailWhale"

i did every recall that dodge ever asked for. i drive hard but not too hard for an HD. have done minimal offroading, and with 37s recently and only a thuren lift, its clearly a factory problem, not mine. Warranty is cleared. ive had BMWs, jeeps, hellcat, audis, mercedes and never once had trans or e...
