Re: Shock suggestion for towing/daily driver

Someone else here is running Skyjackers too. A lot of us on this forum, and almost everyone at PWIM was running Thuren's stuff. Dude knows these trucks. Best bang for the buck, and best damn service. Seriously, Don takes care of folks. I appreciate that. I'm running Kings now, but I looked at these...

Re: 37x12.5 on AEV Saltas – metal trimming or liner only (2018)?

Exactly what I'm hoping for! I went with the AEV wheel because they state it will allow fitment of 37s, and they didn't mention cutting being required. Also glad I went with the 12.5 width over the 13.5. The tires are sitting at Discount Tire waiting for me, and the wheels should arrive today by Fe...

We wheel pretty hard, and no one torn up a truck at Power Wagons in moab running 37’s.
Yeah, there was some polish on a suspension component from rubbing at full lock, but it was just polishing, no significant issues.

Re: Shocks???

The Thuren kits are amazing. I just don’t have $3.5k for the full kit, haven’t ridden in a truck with significantly less expensive overlanders.

All of the tire failures at PWIM 2018, 35 trucks and all failures were Duratrac.
I though a toyo got a flat? I’m fairly sure all the destroyed tires were duratracs.

Discount tire in AZ right after Moab said they were coming out “soon” but all he’d seen were the press releases and the sales guys singing praises. I’d like to hear more from an actual user.

I have not. Been thinking of 35s or 37s. Haven’t figured out what I want. The Toyo, BFG, nitto all seem good.

Re: Best Build Decision? Leather....

I trashed one and got a repairable flat off-road at Moab. The other guy running stock tires trashed one on the highway driving to the trail and got a flat on a trail. Of the other 19 trucks I think there were 1-2 flats total. ! Toyo IIRC.

Re: What did you pay for your latest Gen PW

I dealt with Kyle Evans there. Much easier than my local salespeople, who kept wanting me to fill out financial paperwork before they would give me a price. He asked me what I wanted, sent me a price in a few minutes, in writing a bit later. The added sliders, diff armor and the bed cover for me, pr...

Huh? Your phone doesn't have GPS signal? Then you bought a cheap phone dude. I don't even have service on my iPad Mini, but it is a cellular model and works great. I know some people think they will save money buying the wifi model and then buying a GPS receiver, you will not save money. Done the m...

Re: What did you pay for your latest Gen PW

Dennis Dillon sold me the truck, special ordered in Oct-nov, for $10k off list. (Including the FCA rebates) In stock or at a better time of the year it would have been better. Very easy to deal with, but you have to go there yourself and sign the paperwork. After you have it you can ship it (or what...

Re: Too many stickies.

The tire one is a great opportunity for expert opinion as to what works and what doesn’t. There are a lot of choices out there and just getting a set of “these are what we have generally seen work” recommendations as the first post would be helpful.

Re: Best Build Decision? Leather....

There are lots of options to reupholster your seats. It's just a big pain.

And yeah, first time at Moab and I destroyed a duratrack and holed another one. That's also when I found you can't mount TPMS sensors in your spare(s). There are still some poor decisions being made at corporate.

Re: Overkill? (Snatch Block)

I like the safety factor. With no true guidelines in place for how manufacturers rate these blocks, seems logical to go with what’s worked for the past few decades. It's also useful to absorb accidental shock loads. Don't shock load your recovery systems, it's bad. (Stealing some examples from a ri...

Re: Overkill? (Snatch Block)

With a system of blocks in place you pull a lot more than the winch is rated for. But the blocks need to hold that force. See the second example here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Block_and_tackle The winch is pulling 25 but the block is holding 100. If the block breaks at 48 it’s going to be bad...

Re: Overkill? (Snatch Block)

CM shackles are much better and similar or cheaper than off-road trash. Don't own any Crosby ones myself, but they are a bit more than CM IIRC. Not their snatch blocks. For example, a nice 15 ton Crosby snatch block - $2,820.00 CM doesn't seem to make snatch blocks at all. Poke around amazon, they h...

Re: Overkill? (Snatch Block)

I bought the 27,000 pound WLL (iirc) in the clearance section of masterpull. 54k min breaking load for $150 iirc. I wanted 15 ton rigging snatch blocks, but they start at $500.

They could offer a factory thuren suspension upgrade on the power wagon. Not that I expect them to do so, but they could. I understand that a bunch of the "standard" options are in fact installed off the production line, like the bedliner.

Hit up Chris Sisseck over on offroad power wagon. As much as you disdain FB, he's been through his 2016 twice now. First with Nitro gears, then Yukon's. He literally did a full swap on the ground next to my trailer in Moab. Chris will know. Used to be a service tech. Helped us all get part numbers ...
