Re: Tonneau Cover Recommendation

The heavy duty is really heavy duty. But I drive around with a 37 Toyo strapped to the top of mine. The only issues I’ve seen is it you load across the hinges. It levers the latches and you’ll have a hell of time locking and keeping it locked. I needed new plastic tips for the locking rod as I tore ...

Re: What would you expect to pay for a re-gear?

IIRC, the Yukon seemed to be preferred over Nitro, as there isn't any OEM last I knew. It looks like ~$900 just for the ring and pinions. No idea what other parts you need, or how much it would cost if you paid something to do this for you. But I've never really looked into this much, so hopefully s...

Iirc, you are good way past reasonable temperatures. I think I was told things get bad somewhere above 250?

Re: Tazer or ProCal

Alfaobd can do that too. Tpms is easy, changing the wheel size is a bit trickier as it requires a series of steps to get ABS working. If you do it wrong then among many other things you get no speedometer.

Re: Tonneau Cover Recommendation

Love my diamondback. Also have the factory RAM foldable cover that worked great. But wanted a more solid cover. I do have the rambox and the diamond back does not seal the greatest at the tailgate, so I do get some water in the bed. Someone at PWM had modified theirs slightly to get it to seal a lo...

Re: 37 Tire in a 7' Garage?

I've pretty much abandoned any hope of getting it into my garage. I'm just hoping that if I carefully back in I can get the truck nearly level before I have to stop to keep from striking the door, but I haven't tried it.

If I do another house it will have taller doors and a deeper garage.

It’s not as complete a weld as I thought, but it’s pretty solidly in place.

Re: EMF steering linkage?

Interesting conversation. I was looking DOR drag link to replace the OE link with the latest recall out on it. Haven't taken it in for the recall yet. I'm leery about the recall fix, assuming all is good, to weld the jam nuts. Doesn't make sense and no longer able to center steering wheel when need...

Re: Aluminum Driveshaft failures?

There is a huge range of hardness and strength of aluminum alloys. I don't know what alloy they use or why they chose it, but I'd bet that "resists sharp rocks" wasn't a big part of the selection criteria. Several people at PWIM had thoughts on how to protect the drive shaft, but we'll see if these ...

Re: Aluminum Driveshaft failures?

Yeah, they explode instantly when they make contact with a rock. They are as thin as an aluminum can. I'm not joking. It's not really the first thing you need to replace. Just don't use your drive shaft as a rock slider and you'll be fine. You want ramps. Not ledges with undercuts. That will get yo...

Re: Aluminum Driveshaft failures?

At least one destroyed on the rocks at PWIM a few weeks back. A couple of others got some nice battle scars. There were 3 that failed at PWIM last I knew. Two rear and one front. The front one seemed to just have a catastrophic u-joint failure, the shaft might have been ok. The rear ones were cut i...

Re: New OEM 17x8 wheels. Never mounted.

I only tried once, and it was on the trail and getting dark after I tore the side out of a duracrap. So maybe we could have gotten it to fit given more time to mess with it. But it just didn’t want to go, so it went on the bed cover.

Going to order shortly to hopefully coincide with the trucks arrival.
The dealer did mine, for a fairly small fee that got rolled into the financing. Not that you can’t do it, but they are big and heavy.

Good deal! Man I should just buy one of these damn things for a spare once and for all already lol!

Where abouts in Michigan?
The aluminum wheels don’t mount using the stock spare winch. I’m sure you can make them fit, but you’ll have to fiddle with the part that goes through the hub.

Re: WK Sliders - To diamond plate or not?

I’ve just got the standard diamond plate. Didn’t know there were options. Not sure I’d have taken it, as that puts the truck weight on the small SS screws that fasten the plate to the slider. This seems likely to end badly. It it’s pushing the DOM tube out that wouldn’t be so bad, but it still incre...

The outer edge of them is the round dom tubing.
Unless you are very short that isn’t where you put your foot. Your foot touches the outer edge of the plate, then you rotate the foot to flat on the plate as you get into the truck.

So new door is on. About 3 hours including swapping the door panel etc. Still needs paint, but a lot less work.
