2017 Decal on RAMBOX

I've heard the complaints, and now I'm experiencing it first hand. The paint on my drivers side RAMBOX has inexplicably started to flake away. My first thought was that it must've been impacting the RTT when the RAMBOX was opened, but I checked and there's plenty of clearance. No nicks or scratches ...

I think I'm honing in on a nickname. Either Dirt Wagon or Sand Wagon. It only took 3 years.

This Carli Diff Guard is badass. I'd have bought one for the rear if it was offered.

Re: Torq's Build - 2017 RAM Power Wagon (Nickname Undecided)

Also added some lights to the bed rack before the trip. I put them on an auxiliary battery that I kept int he RAM Box which I powered off of a 4 AWG cable I ran up to the primary battery and a National Luna split charge system. I mounted the switches and isolator solenoid to the RAM Box dividers, us...

Re: Torq's Build - 2017 RAM Power Wagon (Nickname Undecided)

Way behind on updates. I put a Wilco Hitchgate on as a quick solution for the spare tire for my 2019 Mecca to Utah/Arizona/Colorado/New Mexico. I was satisfied with the ease of assembly and time to install. It held up for many hundreds of miles of washboard and rough off roading, but ultimately, it ...

Re: Auxiliary Battery in RAMBOX

I tried to think of a nice way to say it. Optimas are never the right choice. Odyssey or Deka. If you’re in Portland there’s a Deka facility in the north side by Danner Boots. I had Odysseys in my Land Cruiser. Was pretty happy with them and they come in a smaller size. They're definitely on the li...

Re: Auxiliary Battery in RAMBOX

Well, I was wrong. That battery is toast. I wonder if an Optima yellow top will fit in there.

Re: Torq's Build - 2017 RAM Power Wagon (Nickname Undecided)

I have a quite a few updates, just didn't have time to get them before the trip west. Here are a few of the no-drill bedslide project. I was able to create some rail mounts using the tie-downs. It slides pretty well over the 1x2s that are laminated with low friction plastic. I painted the platform w...

Re: Tow/Haul Mode in the Back Country

I'm headed home from the two week expedition and I heeded y'all's advice, using tow/haul almost all of the way. It truly shines going through the mountains on steep descents with the engine braking. Driving through KS and MO on the way home, I turned it off due to the flat terrain and the truck not...

Re: Tow/Haul Mode in the Back Country

I'll definitely give it a try, especially with the engine brake assist. We'll be on some pretty steep narly switchbacks, so maybe using tow /haul can save me some brake wear.

Re: Tow/Haul Mode in the Back Country

That's interesting. I was aware that tow/haul changed shift points, but I never considered that it was better for the truck to drive in tow /haul all the time. Does tow j haul just keep the transmission healthier?

Tow/Haul Mode in the Back Country

I'm about to head out on my biennial expedition. Doing North Rim of the Grand Canyon and White Rim in Canyonlands. With a 200lb roof tent, a 37" spare tire mounted to a Wilco hitchgate, 300 lbs of fuel and water and up 200-300 lbs. of camping/cooking gear, should I be considering doing some or part ...

Re: Torq's Build - 2017 RAM Power Wagon (Nickname Undecided)

DSC_0441.jpg In parallel with the bedslide project, I'm working on the wiring for the lighting and mounting of the relays, switches, bus bars and smart solenoid. The plan is to only drill holes in the RAMbox dividers, not in the plastic of the RAMbox itself. Doing a mock up, I realized that the RAM...

Re: Torq's Build - 2017 RAM Power Wagon (Nickname Undecided)

I had the same passenger side ocd squeak as well. Ended up being a washer rubbing on the body. Took the bolt out, ground down a flat spot on the washer, and reinstalled so the flat spot was now pointing toward the body. Noise be gone. Awesome. I'll try that and report back on how it works. It's bug...

Re: Torq's Build - 2017 RAM Power Wagon (Nickname Undecided)

Really like your build, keep it going sir! Just a word of warning on the hitchgate, it’s a solid product but if you get going too fast down rough roads with a heavy spare on there, you’re going to damage your bedsides where it attaches Thanks much. I have the same concerns about the hitchgate as we...

Well, I only have half of the hitchgate, so that will have to wait till next weekend. In the meantime, I'm working on the homemade bedslide and the rack lights. I love the bedslide from... Bedslide , but I'm taking a shot at avoiding drilling holes in my relatively new bed. Also trying to avoid anym...

Re: Torq's Build - 2017 RAM Power Wagon (Nickname Undecided)

Cant go wrong with either of those for diff protection. However carli is only the front, so if you want to keep it “uniform” then go purple cranium and be done with it. Cant wait to see how your added battery setup in the rambox turns out. Ive been thinking about doing something like that for a whi...

Re: Auxiliary Battery in RAMBOX

If a lead acid battery can survive in the engine compartment, it'll do fine in the RAMbox. I'll look for something that's the right size and go with it. Too late for me to switch to RedArc system now. I need to finish the installation and test phase of this build in the next few weeks.

Re: Auxiliary Battery in RAMBOX

Pretty sure that you're committed to a wet lead acid given that the Luna is just a smart(er) direct connection relay. There are a variety of AGMs that would probably fit, but they require a different charging profile than what your going to get from the engine system. RedArc DC-DC would allow you t...
