37s with overland extreme questions

hey fellers i did some research but still unsure of some things. have a 2017 thats basically stock except for 35s and blm bypass. im kicking around the idea of going to a overland extreme kit. 1.5" front springs and his soft ride rears with atleast a 1" spacer to keep the rake. thinking fox 2.0 for ...

Re: Welding Axle Tubes

i wouldnt think a stock 6.4 has nearly enough huevos to break plug welds. i wonder how much the truss is even needed unless you go full retard and get stupid. i guess over building components isnt a bad idea just to be on the safe side

Re: Pinion Seal Replacement

my advice about the pinion seal replacement. since its been fine for 200k, mark the nut with paint stick. change seal and put old nut back on with locktite, bit of fipg on the splines wouldnt hurt eaither. you could go a freckle past the marks but i wouldnt go much, if any at all. milwaukee fuel gun...

Re: Pinion Seal Replacement

ive done pinion seals, outer axle seals on dakotas, unit bearing and ball joints but never messed with ring and pinion gears much. if you have to pull the shafts for the ball joints, might as well do the shaft ujoints and unit bearings. if the carrier has to come out for the the inner seals, ya bear...

Re: be glad you have a pw

Everything is different on the front end between the GM 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks, there is no carry over that I know of except for possibly the steering rack if anything. As far as GM's front ends, if all you're doing is towing, using it as a stock height work truck, or otherwise driving it as it was...

Re: be glad you have a pw

if your trying to stabilize or dampen wheel movement, isnt the most effective location at the exact spot your stabilizing ? like what ram has done. not 2 feet away on the drag link. and if the lower drag link joint develops slop, the ss becomes even more less affective. rams is behind the tie rod. a...

Re: be glad you have a pw

you can go to the ford forum and see the joints on them new trucks are failing with less than 30k mi of just highway miles. hell my corrolla was at nearly 200k with perfectly tight original joints and it traveled the same highways

Re: be glad you have a pw

Well, the mechanic who now does most of the work on my PW drives a new F350 diesel and he claims his front and rear e-lockers work first time, every time. Wish I could say that for my PW. mine work at the drop of a hat also. blm rig bypass makes it all possible  . honestly i like the look o...

Re: be glad you have a pw

I've read where cheby 1/2T and 3/4T 4x4's use the same front running gear. The pumpkins, axles, etc. The only difference is in the wheel bolt pattern. 6 vs 8. I don't know how true that is. i wouldnt be suprised. a guy at work broke the front ujoints on 2 never chevy gas trucks. back in the day whe...

Re: be glad you have a pw

everyone talks about the d60 but im not all that impressed with what i seen. i guess the huge after market support must be nice but other wise ill stick with the electric cad aam. and fords using some wonky steering stabilizer setup that puts it clear up on the draglink near the pitman arm. brillian...

be glad you have a pw

i dont know about anyone else but if it wasnt for gen4 wagons i wouldnt bother owning a full size truck. for entertainment i visited some local ford and chevy dealers ( when theyre closed of course so i dont get mistaken for a interested customer ), so i could have a look at the running gear. maybe ...

Re: Diff Temp video

most 4wd owners in general probly dont drag the housing across rocks. so that lower hanging scoop piece should be just fine. for the handful of people that do venture through rocks ,it migh not be the best choice of covers. how easily it could be clogged with mud is hard to say. to many variables to...

Re: NV271 Noise

i wouldnt worry unless its extremely loud but a whine is typical of plenetary gears or most any spur type of gear. automatic trannys do it also if you listen close. i have a older toyota which has very little sound deadening of the interior and you can clearly hear the planetary gear whine especiall...

the chain is always turning on those models. if your referencing a whine noise then its likely the planetary gear set. common noise. some are louder than others for various reasons.

Re: Front and Rear 5.13 Regear Parts List?

ive done alot of mechanical work on various vehicles and the first thing i do is get a factory service manual. i dont know exactly what parts youll needs but the manual may give some indication. maybe the carrier and pinion bearings and pinion seal. crush sleeve and the axle shaft flange gaskets. yo...

Re: 2018 PW Leak behind Front Axle

i havent heard anyone having trouble from electric cad but as with anything else in life, just use common sense. you want the front and rear shafts going the same speede before trying to engage it. not after your stuck and rear tires turning 60mph and fronts are 0mph

Re: 2018 PW Leak behind Front Axle

you would think there is a simple replaceable oring but that goes against any common sense. part diagrams dont show any oring that i could see. if its removable you might get it matched up at a hose and rubber shop

Re: 2018 PW Leak behind Front Axle

i would of thought the seal was inboard of the cad but maybe not. while i do have a service manual, ive never needed to look at the front axle pages. ram couldnt be stupid enough to not have some kind of replacable paper or oring seal. then again, the dummies made the thermo housing with no replaca...

not to arm chair qauter back the situation but if the trans isnt working right, why keep driving it another 25k miles ? with a heavy foot, 37s and 4.10 gears, i can see the trans burning up. why the tcase oil is black still has me a bit stumped, but it must have seen extreme heat as well

Re: 2018 PW Leak behind Front Axle

why didnt you determine what kind of fluid it was ? seems easy enough. diagnosing a leak is the same regardless of vehicle type hard to tell from the photo. could be coolant or maybe engine oil from above. i dont believe theres supposed to be gear oil near the cad so if its gear oil you have a inner...

Re: Radiator Hoses: To Change Or Not?

everything works fine until it doesnt. rubber degrades over time and at 15yr they could blow at any time and leave you stranded, and a towing bill, and alot of grief. most people wait until theyre stranded. dont be like most people my 04 tacoma rarely is driven but i changed out the timing belt, wat...
