 I do see where he is coming from though. I would have to guess that 40s with a 6.4 feels much like a turd, even with 5.13s. And then to have to tow with it... People with 40's aren't towing anything substantial... Show us your substantial towing that you think can't be done with 40's. I'll w...

Re: The Gladiator returns...

Well, getting past the derailment...

In 2021, when I can buy a Diesel Gladiator Rubicon used (or new if the resale is as crazy high as the Wrangler's are), one of these will likely be replacing the PW. Fuel economy alone will probably pay for itself!

As an ex-test engineer for Dana corporation in Toledo, I am calling BS on this (and yet another reason I think Gale Banks is a better salesman than engineer...). I've personally seen the difference on an M44 rear end, one with a cast aluminum finned cover, and the same axle with a stamped steel cove...

Re: Winch Contactor

Well, took me about 2.5 hours last night, but got the contactor installed. Had to re-use the factory cables off the winch (my crimper is shot), so it isn't exactly where I'd like it (re-used the hose clamps that hold on the factory box, but now they grab the mount on the contactor directly), but it ...

Re: Winch Contactor

Haven't looked there, no.

The SuperWinch version is about 1/2 the price, for basically the same parts. I can mount it right back in the WARN box, and you'll never know it's in there. It's on the list of "to-do's"... I'll try to document it when I get around to it.

Winch Contactor

Anyone replaced the solenoid pack with a solid state contactor? My solenoids went after this past winters salt... Hate to replace that antiquated technology and have it fail again (covered with fluid film and the salt still ate it up). Will replacing the solenoids with a standard contactor (probably...

Re: Axle U-Joints

Well, did the EMF ball joints and the Spicer U-Joints. Install wasn't awful, but broke a few tools in the process... Heat is your friend. Passenger side was fine, everything was good and tight, replaced everything anyway. Drivers side had a bad UPPER ball joint, and a bad u-joint with one cap horrib...

Re: Axle U-Joints

Well, I ordered the EMF balljoints, and the Spicer/Dana U-Joints. Should be here by the end of next week. So, I'll probably be tied up in this project most of next weekend. Hoping the ball-joint press has the nut to get the old joints out successfully. Going to start hosing things down with PB Blast...

Re: Axle U-Joints

Well I'm jealous Rusty! Haha. I don't plan on replacing my U-joints ever again either... I figure another 2-3 years with the truck, then on to the next one. So, the EMF ball joints and Spicer U-Joints should get me another 45K miles or so without issue. I'll probably go with Don's Trackbar, just bec...

Re: Axle U-Joints

Which Spicer's did you use? 5-3212X looks like the right ones. Those RCV's are trick, but for $2300 I can buy a lot of U-joints... Hell, I can buy ball joints, a track bar, u-joints, and rock rails all for less money, or new U-joints and a free spin hub kit... As for ball joints, EMF are about $520,...

Axle U-Joints

Alright, I'm getting feedback through the wheel, telling me the front joints are shot (binds enough to give a ratchet effect when returning to center on sharp turns). I 'm going to upgrade to a Thuren or Carli Track Bar as well. Thinking about doing ball joints while I'm in there (ridiculously expen...

SOLID Rear Diff Cover 2014+

Bought this from another guy on here who said it was for a 10.5" cover... it wasn't... $50 plus shipping to you (ships from 14086). Comes with the cover, hardware, and RTV. Nice heavy nodular iron cover. I put one on the front diff, and it's beefy for sure. They don't make one for the 10.5", otherwi...

Re: Bought a Jeep

FYI, they had the brake-lock traction control system, and while it's certainly not a locker, you'd be surprised what it'll do stock with that system alone. Put it in 4lo, and get a wheel up and spinning, and the computer applies brake force to just that spinning wheel, the diff routes power to the o...

Re: 4th gen units ready to ship immediately.

No... You could hardwire the lockers, but that'll require bypassing the factory switch. Might screw with your smartbar too (I don't remember). I plan on keeping my truck for a while, so I'm tempted just to hardwire them. They'll have instant engagement, but you won't have any feedback that they're l...

Re: Lost oil pressure after high-speed offroad

If you were running that hard, and stared the pickup for oil, you could have dropped pressure momentarily. Long enough and you'll damage main bearings, which would result in the drop in oil pressure consistently. I'd cut open those oil filters looking for anything unusual for the next few changes. A...
