Re: Camper/Toy Hauler Advice

I have a 13000 BTU AC unit on a 30ft trailer with 2 slides (1 a super slide). And a 4500w generator. On a really hot day it can keep up if its on before it gets hot and you don't open the door much. But if you drive somewhere towing a sealed box in 100 degree weather and setup in the heat of the day...

Re: Camper/Toy Hauler Advice

I wouldn't do an onboard gen. They are more difficult and hard wired. At least I wouldn't make it a requirement for the trailer. And most travel trailers don't have them. I've also known a number of people who had to have theirs removed and went portable. With a portable you can buy 2 of the portabl...

Re: Camper/Toy Hauler Advice

Well... i have lots. You can put a generator on anything. Mine is on a pull out back bumper. Water tank isn't as important as grey tanks. 60 gal plus water tank and a grey water with seperate galley tank is super nice. Toy haulers have wierd configs. If you don't need that don't get one. You can get...

Airlift Ultimate 5000 Airbags with Daystar cradles. There are two different installation writeups if you look for them.

Re: New Rear Bumper?

High clearance 2 and a cleaned up Kinzer would be about perfect. I already have a front camera but was making it removable for offroad only. Just need to mount it. So it's not really a parking solution. Not that i really need front parking sensors. You drive a truck enough and you know where the fro...

Re: New Rear Bumper?

I don't mind double fairlead if it's for a reason and not because it's a winch bumper for a standard 2500 and we are just running the winchline through the gap instead... giving the giant fat lip appearance and killing approach angle...

There is another front bumper option coming soon. I keep hearing that... i know of three in some form of pre-thought through pre-production but no dice so far. Re: Locker Bypass

I don't think there is much finesee involved as we think. I think your tires need to be able to slip so the gears can align and I think there is a speed limiter. Like you have to be under 3mph or something. I think people are trying to go too fast, or not moving at all, or on a surface that a tire c...

Re: New Rear Bumper?

Right now I'm stuck on 775Fab or Kinzer front bumper and the ADD Stealth Fighter rear bumper. Best options I've found so far. If I was 100% happy i'd have already pulled the trigger. Re: New Rear Bumper?

I know Maple Wagon has built something similar for a 3rd gen and is making a production 4th gen. ADD stealthfighter rear is the slimmest and tightest I've found that's production. Other than that the market mostly sucks with winch bumpers and bro bumpers...

Re: New to me 2016 PW

I somedays really wish I woulda created a build thread. I did all my mods in a nice progression that I think is nice in these kinds of scenarios. If you want armor, doet, no regrets. When you get to suspension buy the Thuren front springs to get your nose up a hair to level it. If being a hair nose ...

Re: Towing advice

If I change it'd be to 4.88s I think... but that is far from certian. Sometimes I'm in 2nd gear at 4600 rpm pulling hills. But I'm doing that at like 75 passing semi trucks. It's kinda what gears are for. If i was doing 35 or 40 in 2nd gear like my gramps old International pulling the boat with a ca...

Re: Towing advice

My 16 Laramie PW is on 37s and I tow 8500lb trailer. It's fine. It's NOT a diesel but it's fine if you know what to expect. Power band on gas is at about 4600 rpms so it grunts more on hills but i can still pass trucks doing 80 etc.

I went to 35/30 which was 33/28 super cold in the morning on washboards and I'd do 40mph and be fine.

Re: Thuren Test Drive

Dial the pressure down a bit and go faster... lol. I sometimes think stage 2 would be softer on the small shit than stage 3 but it really evens out when you get the pressure low. At that point your riding on your shocks most of the time and using them for big hits, the springs are mostly used for dr...

Honestly this should be a warning. I was backing up on an obstacle in Moab in 4LO in reverse down a hill and the truck... would... not... stop... i had to throw it in neutral to stop it. Maybe we should mention this in PWiM next time because it caught me off guard... Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapa...

Re: GVWR and Payload

Exactly!! The shit that matters is the same. The shit that derated the GVWR is usually replaced and/or fixed by bags. All you really gotta do is get rid of the squat and make sure the tires match the axles. Don't exceed GCWR or tow rating for long hauls, (short distance on a farm would be fine). For...

Re: GVWR and Payload

Fine... i didn't want to cover it. But in rare instances a shop can change your sticker if they rebuild a portion of the vehicle and are authorized to do so. But it's pretty rare. I've seen one truck with a modification sticker. He's asking basic questions so I was trying to stay out of the edge cas...

Re: GVWR and Payload

I was trying not to be too specific. If your on king shocks, with and upgrade trackbar, and springs you'll be way better off than stock PW for towing. My truck is 8500 with just me in it and my tounge weight is around 1500 lbs. I'm probably at 10k on the truck and it handles it no problem with airba...

Re: GVWR and Payload

You can never change the sticker. But the only thing lowering the rating on these trucks is the suspension. But when you replace the suspension with upgrades it'll get a little worse and a little better in different aspects. At the end of the day I personally use the normal 2500 gas payload and towi...

Re: Patriot Campers Off Road (PTOR) RT25 SUPERam

Honestly your freshwater tank is rarely your limiter. You usually run put of grey water space or black water space first. A seperate grey water and galley tank is also nice. My water tank is 60 gallons with seperare grey, galley, and of course black. I rarely run put of space. But I've been RVing my...

I would not run 37’s every day in San Fran I can't imagine driving a PW in SF. I've been often for conferences. That place is a nightmare... I'd get the truck and a beater car for in town, lol. Everyone covered the rest. Airlift over Firestone because Airlift can be run at 0 PSI which negates the n...

Re: Patriot Campers Off Road (PTOR) RT25 SUPERam

I have many similar use cases and issues you do. Including the city slicker fiancee who won't admit it. There aren't that many mod choices for a PW. I mean there are but it's not as expansive as other platforms. In this case you have a group running Moab and breaking and testing shit for you. What t...
