Re: Front Diff Blow Up

Reloader,

Ya, love my truck and what it can do but damn it breaks down with big things and if they cant fix and the costs become prohibitive its just gotta go.
If the Ford wont break down as much then all's good but that's a crap shoot too! The Ford certainly wouldn't see the duty the PW has.

Re: Front Diff Blow Up

Isn't that normal though? Seems to be... Pretty sad they don't know enough about their product to properly repair as mentioned by a few in this post. Guess cars and trucks are becoming far too complicated for the techs to know what to do outside of replace parts. I'm probably going to sell ...

Re: Front Diff Blow Up

Latest in the saga. Dealer still has truck. Cannot get the front locker to engage. Can do it with their computer but cannot with the switch. saying the actuator is not getting power. They've checked fuses, etc. nothing. Supposedly having someone from Chrysler engineering getting involved.

Re: Front Diff Blow Up

I assume that before they install new parts, and before you pay them, they can articulate what specifically was wrong and what specifically was changed. Transfer cases are generally pretty simple, did they rebuild yours or replace it? If replaced, why? Why was the driveshaft rebalanced? Did they in...

Re: Front Diff Blow Up

What was wrong with the transfer case? Probably nothing. Once the finished the front diff they test drove it (as did I) and when in 4hi or 4lo, made grinding noises and shuddered. They drained the fluid and fluid was all black and watery. So other than that fluid being strange, I am suspecting the ...

Re: Front Diff Blow Up

Update to story line... Went by the dealer yesterday to test drive the truck as FCA Care said they were going to call me back with some type of closure and work was said to be completed by the dealer (front pinon gear, new transfer case, rebalanced drive shaft, new slip yoke and joints - $6400). Wan...

Re: Front Diff Blow Up

Supposedly the Carli arms "move the front axle 2" forward".

Seems that would change some of the geometry in the diff as the attaching driveline distance is now changed - yes/no?

Re: Front Diff Blow Up

Appreciate the commentary guys. I can learn something from that. FCA Care is now saying they probably cant cover due to the Carli aftermarket parts (springs, control arms). I am curious if that may have something to do with the situation via premature wear... I'm seriously thinking its time to sell...

Re: Front Diff Blow Up

if the dealer had the pinion nut off at some point in time then its completely plausible they pooched the job which is what it kind of sounds like.. even though all they would of needed to do was mark the nut and reinstall it back to original position or a fraction tighter. this is why a dealer wil...

Re: Front Diff Blow Up

Powertrain wreck more like it. $6400 is the tally. I've asked Chrysler to get involved and that's been going on its third week now. None of the parts should have failed. Mild towing, mild offroading, 80K miles, all maintenance done at appropriate intervals. Unfortunately not knowledgeable enough to ...

Re: Front Diff Blow Up

Have you had a front pinion seal leak fixed in the past if it was not done right it could have caused some premature bearing wear? If you want an alternative to the dealer for repairs J&S Gear Co. is excellent the shops in Huntington Beach. http://www.jandsgear.com/ Yes, I did have the dealer fix a...

Front Diff Blow Up

Driving to work this AM at about 35mph trucks comes to a screeching halt. I try to move forward but no, just binding and noise. Shift to reverse, same thing. Get our of truck to see what up and see about a 15 foot double skid but no glaring issues under the truck. Get back in try again with same res...

Re: 2012 5.7 oil filter part number

Thanks Coder. Gonna run this by the parts department tomorrow and see what they hand me this time. The filter in the pic looks accurate for what's on the truck.

2012 5.7 oil filter part number

Crazy, been trying to find this oil filter and been to the dealer and aftermarket and keep getting handed what appears to be the wrong sized filter. Wrong size meaning the circumference is to wide and wont fit past the small guard that is to the bottom of the filter connection. Filter should relativ...

Carli Ball Joints

Just dropped a set in. Definitely a tighter feel in the front. I hit a rock some time ago and bent the lower tie rod bar. Had the total tie rod package replacement with stock parts. Guys who did the ball joint install said the tie rod ends needed to replaced. Seemed odd because the new package has a...
