Re: Thuren vs. Carli

Good deal, thanks guys. Good advice. Yes, first major shock upgrade for me (I did do Bilstein 7100s in my second gen which were amazing, but I was coming from white shocks.)

Thuren vs. Carli

So Thuren is about 10% cheaper, and I have done business with Don before, I really like the second gen steering and track bar he built for me. However, I have seen some concerns on here that the Carli stuff is better suited to Hemi/PW. I am primarily looking at springs and 2.5 Kings, not terribly co...

Steelbender.

I have never done Hole in the Rock. I would really like to. I have driven pretty much every Moab trail including many defunct (Proving Grounds, Coyote Canyon) but very few others in Utah (not counting around Price and the Bookcliffs for work.)

Re: Coil bucket/shock mounts mod

Here are my thoughts others please chime in... If you swap to his springs, isn't the only difference between the Hemi and the CTD the weight? If so, shouldn't the lighter valving be adequate? Especially with the pig of a winch (M15) up front on the PW? - I think the weight is the primary difference...

Re: Logic Check -- Airbags

Now to clarify further, and maybe this is a Toyota thing, but I have two friends with prerunner Tundras running the full Deaver or Camburg leaves out back, and they use their air bumps as air bags hahaha. So they bring all their camping gear or whatever and the truck says until it rides on the bump...

Re: Logic Check -- Airbags

Air bumps and air bags used as a bump cannot be compared, they're in different universes. An air bag with 5psi isn't going to do much if you bottom hard. The higher the pressure the more it helps and the more it hurts your ride. Air bags with internal bumps will give you the best ride while perform...

Re: Logic Check -- Airbags

So the question is there an advantage to the bumpstop? I am huge proponent of air bumps, which I feel the air bags would be closer to (although relying on shocks for dampening) than the bumps on the Ultimate bags. (assuming pressure is retained). I swapped bumpstops out on all my previous trucks and...

Re: Exhaust Help

Probably useless data... However. On my V6 Ranger back in the day, I put a Flowmaster Delta Flow 50 Series on, and it was very quiet (the open air KnN not as much.) On my second gen when the factory system failed, I put the biggest magnaflow 3" pipe behind the factory cat with an over the frame dump...

On my second gen, I am running 7" Skyjacker coils with stock four link lower brackets. Uppers are from a Skyjacker 5" kit. Lower links are custom, uppers are from the Skyjacker 5". Obviously all the sideways stuff (steering, trackbar etc is Thuren.) My thought is the stock mounts keep the control ar...

Logic Check -- Airbags

Ideally I will get to a 1.5" lift Thuren/King 2.5 kit. Since I bought the truck to be a truck, I would need airbags to go with the Thuren springs. I have a good Viair compressor for tires, but was thinking a std duty remote controlled compressor to a) keep the air bags above 5 psi and b) encourage m...

Will get pics tomorrow. Went 315/70R17 BFG AT KO2s on stock rims on my 2016 Laramie PW. Main reason for 315s over 35"s (nearly the same size according to BFG) is you can get emissions testing done in Colorado with 315s. 35"s kick you out. (need to install smaller rollers for the dyno testing.) Also,...

Re: What Thickness of sliders?

The thicker wall has virtually no resistance to bending, but is more resistance to denting. (resistance to bending is primarily diameter) I went 0.120" I have 2" 0.120" on my 2nd gen for both sliders and roll cage and it's been rolled multiple times and rocker protection abused as much as possible. ...

Re: Warranty and Winch Cable

Can someone explain the purpose of pre-tensioning? Of all the winches I've owned I have never done it. I just don't see its effectiveness if you pull out the full cable on a pull. Proper stretch and layering. If you pull all the cable out the first stuck you should be ok. If the anchors too close, ...

Re: power wagon went onto it's lid at Uwharrie

That sucks. Having rolled my 2nd Gen, it's hard to repair. Broken axleshafts and T Cases are easy. Crushed fire walls and roofs not as much. (Even with the Exo Cage). Insurance is good for us out west as it covers forest roads so most trails are legit. Not sure in private parks. (I did do a lot of d...

Re: aftermarket air filters vs stock

on my second gen the KnN allowed a lot of dirt into the engine. I went back to a cheapo Fram and no problems since.

On the 6.4, I would guess stock is best.
